I've got some really strong pokemon( Blissey, Snorlax...)which I could power up to level 36.5
I also have enought stardust but I'm waiting because of save your candy... So still wait or power up this pokemon? For evolutions I wait but also wait for power up? ( sorry for my english)
I am in the exact same postion as you. I am about 20k away from level 35 and I should hit that tomorrow. I have a lot of dust and candy and lots of high IV metagame pokemon I can level.
For some weird reasons I keep thinking the next event could be something entirely new like 50% cost to candy and dust for leveling pokemon. I have no reason to believe this but for some reason its holding me back from using all my dust and candy until it is announced when the next event is.
If you think that 2 more power ups will make a difference on your gyms there is no reason to not do it.
If you already sit at the top places I would wait to power up, I am also "close" to next level (400k or so but I have like 200 evolutions ready) and I am gonna wait for easter at least before any evolution or power up just in case.
Defenders will probably be hit hard on the gym rework.
I'm not powering nor evolving any defender. I'll be using crap high CP mon to hold gyms (high CP is all you need nowadays anyway) which I already got enough.
I would recommend you to only evolve and power up the attackers that you are really in need. And only power them up to level 30.
