Power up low IV/good moves Dragonite or roll the dice?

New here, with a question.

I'm working on my attacker Dragonites. As of now, my best of these is a 36% IV 11/5/0 Dragonite with DT+Outrage. In an ideal world I'd have a higher IV Dragonite with the same moveset or DT+Hurricane. I have a 89% IV 13/15/12 Dratini and enough candy (162) to evolve it and power up.

So -- should I power up the low IV/good moveset Dragonite or roll the dice and evolve the good IV Dratini? Or hold off for an even higher IV? Anyone have intel on the frequency of the good movesets? Or is it evenly distributed?

Any advice would be great!

Depends on how easily you come across dratini candy and whether you already have a good attack team.

My personal preference would always be to evolve the 89% dratini(provided its at a decent level and not like level 2?). You can do something about a lack of candy and stardust, but you cant change movesets and IVs.

What are the cps of the dragonite and dratini? I'd base my decision on that. Getting dt/o is quite hard to get 1/6 chance and if the dragonite already has relatively highish cp I would def just power it up instead of spending 125 candy and getting a possible bad moveset.

Depends on the CP. The first one you.could certainly upgrade to level 30

Welcome!

I have a similar D'nite with 38% 12D/5A/0H and legacy DB/DC, now lvl 34.5/3036 CP who is my best attacker. So I definitely recommend powering yours up, if at a reasonable level.

On the other hand, I would also want a second D'nite and therefore evolve one. Then look at the moves and decide what to do first - power up the old or new one.

HTH, let us know what you do and how it turns out.

Thanks for the feedback -- it was helpful.

I chose to power up until I maxed out. So the Dragonite is now at 3084 CP at level 35. I'm definitely done powering it up.

I still have a fair number of candy -- and have a number of other Dragonites, which I caught or evolved, but none with great movesets -- so next time I'll probably take a chance on evolving!

I have intel on the frequency of "good movesets", but this may not be everyone's mileage. I've evolved 9 Dnites, & 7 have SW (3xHB (including a 100% IV), 1xDC, 3xHu). The other two are a modest IV DB/DC (my fav attacker), & a good IV DT/Hu. Can't answer the other part of your question, but I'd probably trade my 100% IV SW/HB for your 36% IV DT/O to solve your problem (which is sasy to say when you have 9 D'nites I suppose).

Power up the 36% IV one for attacking proposes.
Evolve the 89% IV one and maybe power it up for defending proposes.

DT/H would be just as a desirable outcome for me. I would muuccch rather face a DT/O than a DT/h; DT/o is incredibly easy to predict and dodge. I'm more concerned about getting hit by hurricane.

On offense, although it requires twice as much energy, it makes dragonite vulnerable for about 55-60% of the duration of Outrage.

If you'd be fine with DT/H, is say roll the dice as you have A 33% chance of getting either moveset. If you're determined for DT/O, I'd say power your current one up. The cp won't be the greatest, but it's better than investing 124 Dratini candies on a 16.7% chance of getting the same moveset with higher ivs, in my opinion.

I'm in exactly the same position and after gym rebalance it's highly probable that my 36%, DT/OR is going to get the candy. Probability just isn't with the Dratini to come out better.

If nothing changes in offense your lvl 30, Dnite will defeat the same lvl 30, 100% Blissey sa a Dnite lvl 30, 100%, except with a little less HP left after the fight.
