Power Up After level 30?

Today i will reach level 30 and i will still powering my elite 5 to level 31.5. As i see many players dont power up more after level 30 cuz of the high cost of dust and 1/2 CP gains. But the question is, power up after level 30 really dont worth it? i guess the dust cost can be easily recovered since you reach a next level to give more power ups again. I am powering only 5 elite pokemon actually:

Dragonite 91.1% db/dp (up to 3048cp);
Snorlax 93.3% zh/bs (up to 2719cp);
Lapras 84% is/b (up to 2534cp);
Exeggutor 100% zh/sb (up to 2596cp);
Gyarados 87% b/hp (up to 2299cp ~damn i want 2300).

Another question i will appreciate your opinion is about to power up a dragonite 78% with SW/DC to 3000cp for defense (hes 2600 i stoped powering him cuz of his moves).

Taking advantage of this Q&A how many pokemon are you powering? whats your level and your elite pokemon stats? (Moveset, CP and IV). Will you still going up them after level 30?.

Initially I powered all that I wanted to power up to level 30. After I had everything at 30, I have started powering up my best Pokémon beyond that. If I recall right the difference between a level 30 and a level 40 Pokémon is about 14%. That being said if you still find your Pokémon holding lower slots on gyms at level 30 you should probably power them up further. If you still have a lot other Pokémon you want to power up to level 30 and you are low on stardust I would recommend keeping them at level 30 until you have everything you need/want.

I'm level 29 and have a Snorlax, a Poliwrath, an Exeggutor & three Vaporeon's that are all level 30 or 30.5. My short term goal is to get at least 10-15 tier 1 or 1.5 defenders up to level 30. After that I'll decide which ones to take to all the way to 40.

I will power my elite 5 to 31.5 just to reach 3k with Dragonite, 2700 with Snorlax and 2500 with Lapras hahaha. After this i will do the same as you, get more defenders/attackers tier 1 with 90%+ ivs and up to level 30.

I'm also almost level 30 & I wouldn't power up from 30.5 to 31.5 yet. I'd get 10 good defenders at 30 first & then power up more.

Your first 4 pokes should definitely be in that list of 10 & the steel wing Dragonite should take priority over the Gyarados.

Since you asked about mine .. I live near a water biome & run through it in the morning to catch Dratini and such, so I am planning to get lots of Dragonite, but I'm trying to go wide before I go deep .. so I am only powering Dragonites up past 2.5K if I need to get them into the top 4 slots in a gym.

93% Dragonite steel wing/dragon claw: 2990 (30.5)
97.8% Dragonite steel wing/dragon claw 2743 (27.5)
91.1% Dragonite steel wing/dragon claw 2568 (26)
52% Snorlax zen headbutt/body slam 2577 (30.5)
82% Lapras ice shard/blizzard 2506 (30.5)
87% Vaporeon aqua tail 2388 (30.5)
73% Vaporeon water pulse 2350 (30.5)
89% Vaporeon hydro pump 2286 (29.5)
77.8% Gyarados bite/twister 2152 (29)
73% Slowbro confusion/psychic 2121 (30.5)

Note: I have not powered up the Gyarados, just evolved it and using it as a filler defender for now.

If I have any regrets .. it's the 73% vaporeon with water pulse. I'll be able to use other 2 vaps offensively once I have better defenders, but I should have waited for a higher IV mon for the defense only move or stuck to hydro pump/aqua. The 73% Slowbro also was a mistake to raise .. I could have just used another Gyarados with slightly lower CP as a filler.

I have a 89% Exeggutor that I'll raise eventually as well, but I'm prioritizing the next Dragonite over that. I also have a 96% Poliwrath with bubble/hydro pump, but not sure if I'll raise it ... barely would make my top 10 list as it stands :(

Nice pokemon team you have. I am thinking about to up the SW/DC Dragonite at least to level 30.5 with 3k (its 2686 already). The point is that moveset...its the third better only, but still a B for defense and if u consider that Hyper Beam its so easy to dodge this move is the second better...so im confused. 78% IV i guess its ok, its a wild one and Dratinis are rare in here. Help me pls.

I wouldn't worry about the charge move so much, it's not that much worse in damage & you're right it's harder to dodge.

If Dratinis are rare, I think you're unlikely to get a better one quickly .. so might as well raise it. Even if you do get a better one, you'll use both until you find tons of better IV Dratini!

The game is too individual to give you a be-all-end-all answer.

My goal is to hold 10 Gyms every day. As such I want 18 Level 30 Pokemon where 12 are Defenders. In my case, 1900-2200 is plenty for a defender to be in top half of gyms. I probably have 30 pokemon in this range (Slowbros, Gyrados, Vaporeans, Flareons, Victorybell and Vilebloom) Become Gym Bait because all of these easily hit that range. It also doesn't matter much on Moves. Even a Twister Gyrados when it's sitting 3rd in a 10 Gym is useful. I also have 4 2300-2600 Defenders (Vaporeans/Snorlax) None of these defenders have been powered above the magic 30 barrier

My attackers though, those I will take over 30. Vapereon, 2 Gyrados (1 with 2 Dragon, 1 Traditional Hydro), 1 Big Grass, my 1 Dragonite, Lapras, becomes my standard.

Now if your in a more competitive area, you might need to specialize in higher cp and higher ranked defending moves.

We have just two gyms in here for now, so sad. You cant even still a gym level 10 for 1 day. So competitive.

I think it's the other way around, you need your highest mons to hold gyms. Attackers have the advantage, you don't need as tough a mon to rek a gym as you do to hold one.
I agree that holding 10 gyms every day is the goal.

I'm level 31 and I have set rules on powering up. I always max out 100 IV best move sets defense or offense on top tier mons, and will continue to do so each time I level up as a trainer. I do this because they are perfect mons, and they are my trophies. 96-98 IV best move set top tier mons I power up if I have a good amount of candies that are also reasonably easy to obtain. 93 IV best move set top tier mons that are difficult to find I power up (Lapras). I try to be disciplined and adhere to these rules but I've broken them here and there especially with snorlaxes.

My Elites to take to Level 40
100 IV Dragonite DB/DC 3125 CP
100 IV Dragonite SW/DP 3125 CP
100 IV Dragonite SW/DP 3075 CP
100 IV Lapras IS/IB 2618 CP
100 IV Vaporeon HPump 2474 CP

Imperfect Elites that I've powered up
96 IV Exeggutor C/SB 2623 CP
96 IV Poliwrath B/HP 2225 CP
93 IV Lapras IS/B 2552 CP
Snorlaxes in 2500-2700 CP regardless of IV (broken rules)
