Potion Efficiency

When players talk about 'efficiency' in relation to potions, they refer to basic potions.
Somehow they mention efficiency, and then justify it with the least efficient potion to use

...everyone heals all their big hitters with basic potions...don't they??!!?.

For me...efficient is 'discarding' basic potion and even anything below 'max potions' - to me there is absolute nothing efficient about stocking up on basic potions.

I guess this 'efficient with potions' in this guise, only fits a specific type of player in a big city.

It usually means the Defense/Stamina ratio. A mon with high defense and mediocre stamina (HP) can take the same amount of pounding as a mon with mediocre defense and high stamina, but it requires less potions to heal it.

Up until a few weeks ago I never had to worry about this, always just reviving and healing as needed, but my potion stock has dwindled alot..to the point that I'm actively thinking about being more efficient. I don't think I've been fighting all that much more than before... maybe 20 to 30 percent more since gyms have been harder to hold lately around here (suburban area seeing a fair number of mid to upper 20's level players active in the gyms that I hadn't seen before). I think part of it depends on balance of play, I haven't been catching as much as I used to so the balls build up faster and I'm always up against the item limit.

You pretty much answered your own question, you dump potions and don't battle much so that aspect of the game of being highly efficient with your use of ur mons and potions isn't a big deal.

For me, getting gym consumables isn't an extreme concern, but at the same time I don't wanna just dump them since I spent time getting in them.

My best advice would be before you go to "stock up" is to take down high level gyms around your area. Sure you may not hold them, but the Exp gain/time spent isn't horrible and it's better than just throwing resources away.

There's two kinds of efficiency, Potion efficiency and time efficiency. The strategies don't always match.

Depends on your bag size and how you define "quite a few max revives". I might head into a supply run with some fainted or revived thus half hp mons and use the regular or super potions to build them back up as those potions drop. Frees up bag space for better items. Save the max revives and max potions when gym battling.

I don't get the "potion efficiency" concept. The only thing that would make sense to me is prestiging with Gengar and Alakazam because they are strong on attack but have low HP. But still, doesn't quite make sense to me.

Maybe these are terms being thrown around and then people just reuse these words but no one is actually able to describe what it means??? Wouldn't be the first time...

For me potion efficiency is Snorlax.
It has good defense and very high max healt and i have over 350 max potions and 65 max revives for Snorlax.

Also its forgiving in battle, can miss dodge or two and it doesnt faint.

For normal revives + smaller potions im using for my 1400cp prestiger wigglytuff.
It has low defense so dodging required.
Propably not most potion efficiency prestiger but i like it.

Potion efficiency for me is using normal potions and superpotions when I'm prestiging and hyper/max potions when I'm battling enemy gyms. For that reason, I value prestigers with high defence and low hp, such as Magneton, Cloyster, Starmie or Tentacruel. My main attackers have access to the big potions, so potion efficiency doesn't really matter much with them.

At lvl 32 I have visited 8060 pokestops, won 1399 gym battles and trained friendly gyms 1011 times. These days, my main mission is to claim 10 gyms every 21 hours, and to do that, I mainly spend my time prestiging friendly gyms when I'm not hitting pokestops/catching pokemon. The only items I ever toss away are pokeballs. I actually find myself hitting pokestops mainly because I'm running out of superpotions to fuel my prestige team Cloysters.
