Potion drop change?

Normally I cannot purge those purple potions fast enough for my limited inventory size, but since yesterday I did not get any potion (purple, orange, pink) as far as I remember - not even from gold gyms. I had to consume some max potions and max revives after battles. Anyone noticed something?

Stops no longer give potions. It’s a welcome relief for me. You only get them from gyms and raids. Now I don’t need to throw out potions by the dozen. When taking a gym just put in a 1500 point Xatu that you will throw away when he comes back. Save yourself the potions and revive.

I finally can get all the pokeballs i need without having to throw out dozens of potions and revives. The only place really hurt by this are areas with highly competitive gyms.

I like the change, too. Use a Lugia or huge Dragonite to take down a gym, my 3000 bite/hp Gyarados did great against a DG Blissey--don't always need to Machamp

The potion drop rate is much lower now, yes.

Do stops still give rare revives?

Everything that previously came from stops still drops, it's just that all the healing items are massively more rare than they were.

This is a pretty extreme shift. I foresee them fixing it very soon. I was always tossing potions en masse too but this is extreme. Now I have none in my bag and a handful for injured mons. I picked up a total of 15 today - most were the purples. It might not be so bad if the stupid autoselect would just stick with the same mon. I'm aware that raikou took about 16 damage clearing that low level gym. Lets not use him again on the final round so you can burn another potion on another mon....

I sure hope they don’t “fix” it. I still have 237 max potions and 191 max revives. I am FINALLY getting to use some of them.

If they take way too long to "fix" it, you eventually won't be so glad for it. I was in basically your same boat, but I never kept more than 150 max potions and 250 max revives. A few months ago I started throwing them away until i was never higher than 50 max potions and 150 max revives. This past week has been mildly annoying since I tend to capture a dozen or so spaces on gyms late at night so I'll be basically guaranteed to earn my max coins some time the next day. However, even though I'm fortunate enough to work within range of 2-3 pokestops for 8 hours almost every day, I've still not been able to earn enough revives and lower level potions (outside of raid "rewards") to completely heal my 10+ guys that get knocked off gyms daily, and I'm loathe to dip my max healing items below 25 and 50 respectively in case I run into a raid that gives me enough trouble to require more than a few attempts. I'd rather throw the healing items away and farm a bit more for balls an berries rather than feel like I need to hold on to extra healing since they aren't guaranteed from stops anymore.

As always, I blame the whales that whined about a lack of healing items because they were doing multiple raids in one day, and hadn't spun enough stops to stock up on those items. Niantic figured that since they're handing them out from raids like candy on halloween, they might as well make them umpteen times rarer from regular stops, cuz they might encourage more players to shell out for extra premium raid passes.

"If they take way too long to "fix" it, you eventually won't be so glad for it."

There is no such thing as too long for me. I'd be just fine if this was permanent. I have just as many potions and revives now as I did 4 days ago. The only difference is I am no longer throwing them away constantly and having to spin many more stops to make up for it.

If you (are fortunate enough under the new lower drop rate) have exactly as many potions and revives as you did four days ago, how does that even square with your previous claim that you're finally getting some use out of your massive stock of healing items?

Because I am using up the ones I get at about the same rate I get them.

I am no longer getting more than I need. Previously I was just stockpiling them or throwing them out. Now I use the ones I get, i.e. I am finally getting some use out of them. Understood?

Yes, more balls, but they decreased them too much.

Now, if they would just stop giving regular potions as raid prizes....

It would seem that other raid rewards have been buffed again to coincide with this. Early days but of my 4 raids yesterday:

Level 4 Silver Gym - 1 FTM 6RC 9GR
Level 5 Silver Gym - 2 FTM 1 CTM 10 GR 3RC
Level 3 Silver Gym - 6 RC missed the rest
Level 4 Gold Gym - 8 RC missed the rest

If Ninatic was smart.

Gyms = Increased Potions/Revives. Balls rare

Stops = Increased Balls. Potions/Revives Rare.

Spin what you need.

Other possible tweaks:
Bonus items for Gold/Silver/Bronze can only be potions/revives. This means you are guaranteed 1-3 each of battling materials at place they battle.

That's exactly what they did. Gyms give more potions and revives.

Has Niantic officially confirmed that they made this change? I've had this issue in the past where I started doing random Level 1 and 2 raids simply to get Potions and Revives. Went through a few full days where I got exactly as many Full Revives as Revives (3 each) over 75+ pokestop spins.

Then it went back to normal.

Unless Niantic officially confirms they have made this change, I'm chalking it up to the strange "Random" programming that gives us such wonderful "random" egg drops where you can get 4-5 of the same Pokémon (ie: 4-5 Ponyta's) on the same day, where you can get the exact same base drop from Gold Medal gyms 8 times in a row (in my case, 4 Purple Potions, 1 Red Pokeball each time and 1-3 other items that were random), where you can get 90% Potions and Revives from Pokestops for days on end, etc.

So until Niantic openly confirms they're making a change to the drop rates, I'm going with "This is Niantic Random" as the explanation.

Yes I'm also hoping it's a glitch, it feels like a glitch, like the one from 1-2 months ago when we only got 2 items per stop.

But it's been a week for me. It took them 3 months to fix the curveball and they have not fixed the level 40 power ups yet.

The gym at my work is handing out typically 1 purple potion and one other potion. At this rate you need to camp near a gym for an hour to replenish an attack or defense team.

Some here are happy that they don't have to throw away potion... but I'm throwing away balls all the time even as I stopped spinning pokestops because the only thing I need is potions.

Dropping balls at pokestops and potions at gyms is a good idea. The problem is that while pokestops drop one purple potion and one revive every 10-20 stops, GYMS are also dropping MUCH LESS potions. Half the gyms drop none. Yellow potions are almost completely gone, I get 1-2 a day for spinning probably 30-50 gyms.

I used to attack gyms I didn't want to take just for fun and to get XP for all my extra potions, now I can't do it anymore.

I guess this is how Niantic makes gyms harder/more costly to take down?
