Pokemons that you use for sentimental reasons
I have 3 old Gyaradoses from the early days of PoGo in 2016.
My first 2 were a 48% IV B/HP and 89% B/Tw. Back then I wasn’t sure which one to power up (I had no idea whether IV or moveset was more important then) so I powered up both slowly.
Then I found a high level 84% karp and evolved it. It got B/DP. I gradually powered it to L30 (I didn’t know it was L30 back then either). I used him a lot in gym battles, especially against Dragonites. I especially liked DP’s cool animation.
Then Gen 2 and Blissey came, and my Gyarados was unable to clear high level Blisseys in time. That’s when my Solar Beam Exeggutor squad took the spotlight.
It’s been 1 1/2 years, and now my B/DP Gyarados is back into action! I use him as the last team member in Lati@s raids. He’s far from the best option (at least both moves are super effective) but it just brings back the memories of gym battles in the early days.
I’m currently walking him because of several quests, including buddy candies and “evolve a karp”.
So do you have any stories to share about one of your Pokemon? Do you use any Pokemon in gyms/raids for sentimental reasons, despite them not being close to the best option?

i have 10 90%+ vaporeons at 36.5, i levelled nearly 20 of them to that level before gen2 came out and i learned what iv's really meant. for context my highest dnite/ttar is 35 so all my dust went on those damn fishcats in early game when they were best things to bulk out a gym with. never use a single one these days - same with a couple of gyaras when gym was all about super high cp monsters no matter how useless they were.
first lugia i caught was 98% 15 attack and he's my top pick for machamp raids but frankly i go more off recommended or top dps pre-sets for raids than any nostalgia.
Even though it's outclassed by Raikou by a fairly significant margin, I use my Zapdos every opportunity I get. If there was one Mon I'm most attached to, it's Zapdos by a wide margin since it's my team bird, my favorite gen 1 legendary from when I played Red/Blue as a kid, and it was the first 100% IV legendary that I encountered/caught. It currently has over 10,000 battles won, and at one point I even had the darn thing as my buddy (and not for candies but just because I like it that much). Long live Lord Zapdos! 😁
