Pokemon naming system (share yours!)

I'm interested in knowing how everyone here names their pokemon.

Other than the occasional troll names (e.g. I name all of my 0IV as G.O.A.T) this is how I do it

I start with a hash and shortened typing name (the first and last letter of each typing, for example Dragon would be #Dn)

Then I give the IV score of each stat. It goes from a scale from A-F for numbers 15-10, and below that, it goes to the number itself.

Finally I save the final 4 characters for the moveset. DB/DC, DT/OR...etc

I think this system is great because it allows you to see what your squad depth is for each typing (search the #Dn to see all your dragon move pokemon, #Wr for all your water pokemon), and when you take your time to go through each squad, you will find pokemon that will go beyond doubt as 'I will not use this in a battle', and save your bag space.

See my example in the screenshot to see my dark lineup.

Looking at my 3440 Ttar, you can see that it is part of my dark lineup (#Dk), has the IV distribution of 14/14/15 (BBA) and has the moves Bite and Stone Edge.

Looking at my best dark gyarados, you can see it is part of my dark lineup (#dk), has an IV distribution of 15/15/10 (AAF) and the moves Bite and Crunch.

Freshly apprised ones get the apprisal result added to their name. For 82+ IVs I use a + or # for best or second best possible apprisal respectivly on the named IVs and a - for the remaining. All of that in order of the apprisal (which is also the order of the stats in the IV calculator). E.g. ++- equals highest apprisal for stamina and attak whereas -#- would be second best apprisal for Atk.
I use additional brackets for second highest over all apprisal.
That way I don't have to check the apprisal again once I find the time to calculate the IVs.

Once I got the exact IVs, I replace the complete name with the IVs in the Order HP-Atk-Def (same as in the calculator and apprisal)

Everything below second highest overal apprisal gets a shipping label (-) and is transfered to the Prof.

Mine's pretty simple, e.g. my top CP pokemon is simply "B/C 88 15" (tyranitar). So move set, % iv and attack iv. Not even in a regimented order lol, depends how I feel at the time. Apart from my battle pokemon the only others I name are 100% pokemon. The new search feature, e.g. @ground is very cool, but I like what you did there. I tend to be scrolling my whole pokemon list regularly so pretty much know what I've got. My storage is at 800 and presently have approx 600 by time done daily evolves/transfers. That's just how I've always done it.

Damn man very impressive. All close to level 39/40?

Thanks ? Yes, they are all maxed out! I favorite only my attackers so the snorlax/blissey army is somewhat below! As a matter of fact i am not a fan of having multiple pokemon of the same species maxed out. So i am guessing some high lvl players would consider my line up somewhat weak because i am lacking dragonites and tyranitars ?

Very good man. Keep it up. Any other projects working on?

I would like to max out a decent mewtwo and raikou once they are available (i live in europe - croatia). Besides that i am trying to grind as much xp as possible and get the closest 10-15 gym-badges around me to gold ?

Same here bro. Very few people in the main series had duplicates but everyone in real life cares about having up to like 6 Pokemon per species. ?

That's exactly what i am saying! Maybe i am too much of an mmo rpg player but the lore and overall trainer-feeling is important to me ? I imagine my dragonite as my partner pokemon and want it to be unique (for me). ✌??

Me too. Very similar. For example. Snorlax with 15 attack 14 defense 13 stamina

Moveset + IVs

Might add level based on a response I saw here. Good idea...

In this example I will use Rhydon to show you how I sort my Pokémon.

Fast move first: Mud shot = MS
Then charged move: Stone edge = SE
Then IVs: 91% = 91
Then ranking of how good the moveset combination is offensively and defensively. Mud shot + stone edge on a Rhydon gets an A in both offense and defense. I use gamepress to rank the attacks: https://pokemongo.gamepress.gg/pokemon/112

Ergo will the end result look like this:
MS SE 91 AA

Everything with iv's 82+ gets a star. (some exceptions are the legendaries, have only 1 of each since I'm a rural player)

My defenders get an € before their name so I can just search those.
Attackers get an @ before their name. But most of them are quite high up my cp sorting list so I don't search those as much.

Aside from special CP numbers (777, 666, 420, all of which get various degrees of "clever" names). I start with IV% (without "%" sign), then specific numbers (Attack/Defense/Stamina) unless it is perfect which I just use "100", and close with a single letter indicating the type of the charge move (usually only space for one more character at that point. Not the most descriptive method, but most mons have a max of 3 different types of charge moves and the optimal fast move is usually always the same.
E.G. A few of my stronger different mons
Dragonite with Dragon Tail/Outrage 91 15/12/14D
Gyarados with Bite/Hydro Pump 96 15/13/15W
Tyranitar with Bite/Stone Edge 93 14/13/15R
Exeggutor with Confusion/Solar Beam 91 15/12/14G
Rhydon with Mud Slap/Earthquake 87 15/12/12G

I used to name them. But after 38 levels I know who they are and their movesets based on their CP. The most commonly used ones anyway.

We don't need pokemon name on their text name right?. We should already know their pokemon name. So, Mine was using QM-CM-IV-A-D-S.
If some of them had 100% IV, I changed to 100%-QM-CM

Tyranitar
BtCr97151514 or ITSE97151514
100%BtCr or 100%ITSE
Dragonite
DTHc97151514 or DBDC97151514
100%DTHc or 100%DBDC

Meant: Using lowercase on second letter mean it has one word. So if the moveset has two words I used uppercase letter.

For me using these texting was so helpful.

I only name IVs 91+ and since you get 12 spaces per name I start off with an asterisk mark to maintain numerical order when sorting by alphabetical order. Perfect IVs don't use an asterisk mark since there's not enough spaces and it will place them past a 98% IV Pokemon instead of in front since 1 (100) comes before 9 (91).

I then place each individual IV by A/D/S order. No need for moveset names because I've memorized the movesets of my most used (Powered Up) Pokemon since I have currently 141 appraised Pokemon above 91%; still have lots I need to appraise and sort out still.

It will make it so much easier when Trading becomes available. I will literally be able to hand my phone to the other person and tell them to scroll down and see if there's anything they'd like as an offer.

Here's an example below showing my method and how it will actually put your 100% IV Pokemon past your 98% ones.

It seems quite unnessecery to state the %-IV if you're stating the exact IV-values. I mean %-IV drop with 2.2 % per one different from perfect. Using three spaces on something thet is already included in the rest of the values seems a bit of a waste.

For fully evolved pokemon, my system lets me sort by level, see IV, gender, moveset, and HP. Anything else, I can find with the new sort feature (evolution chain, type, etc). This is what I do.

Level is the first number and is set so that A is level 30, B is level 29, etc going down. Half levels are lower case (a = 30.5, etc). 31 is "9", 31.5 is "8", etc. For the too levels, I use symbols. This lets me sort by level when I sort alphabetically. This was also chosen with a convenient change to tell which are above 30 and which are 30 or below. This system lets level be one character.

All other numbers use a base 20 system.

Next, I list IV in base 20 (so perfect is FFF). With listing each IV, there is no need for a percentage also. That's redundant.

Then the gamepress rating for the attacking moveset. * is A, + is B, < is C and = is D/F. This helps break up the string of letters to make it easier to read also.

Next is 4 letters for moveset. Two each for and CM. I have a unique two letter (letters and capitalization) for each. For the quick move, if the first letter is upper case, it's male. If it is female, I make the first letter lower case. Non-gender also get capital. For quick moves, mud shot is Sh and mud slap is Sl. Hidden power is a # followed by a one letter identifier for the type.

This is followed by the gamepress defense rating. For legendary, this is just an underscore.

Last is the pokemon HP. This is base 20, so it is always two characters. For a maxed blissey (which can reach 410HP, I use *0 For 400, *1 for 401, etc....then ** for 410). This way, after a raid, I can revive a pokemon and know how many potions I need to use.

As an example, my dragonite that I use in machamp raids is
7AA3*dTHu+72
So, level 32 (7 is 32 in my system). IV are 10/10/3. It is a female with Dragon tail and hurricane. It has 142 HP.

For non-fully evolved pokemon, the first four characters are again level and IV in the same way.

Next is an exactness rating. For instance, when I find the IV, it there is only one possibility, this is blank. If there are 4 possibilities, it's a ?.

Then is the CP of it's fully evolved form.

Last is a gender character (M/F/X).

As this is only 11, I can add an ! to the front for any priority evolutions.

93.3 DB/DC A (Dragonite 93.3% ivs DB/DC 15A iv);
77.8 SW/DC (Dragonite 77.8% ivs SW/DC) etc.

Once I appraise it, this is the system I use.

If it has a perfect stat(s) I indicate that in the name as a prefix: ex: "perfat" for perfect attack. If the biggest stat is "impressive" but not the highest, I use the prefix "imp", so ex: "impat"
If it is over 80% IV and Candela says it's "breathtaking" I indicate that too with the suffix "breath"

So a >80% IV pokemon that I caught with perfect attack would thus be named "perfatbreath".

Once I have that, then I later use PokeGenie to tell me specific numbers. I then name it the numbers att/def/hp.

So that perfect attack, >80% pokemon might become 15/11/13:87%

I sort A-Z and start names with Unicode symbols by Index #, so my best stuff is at the top. Next is moveset and then Unicode symbols for each IV (A/D/S).

I go "Gender/Fast Attack Type/Charge Attack Type - Fast Attack/Charge Attack/IV/Top Stat".

For example, my current Pokémon To Upgrade is a Tyranitar that I call "Mdd-BiCr84A1", who is a Male (M), with a Dark Fast Attack (d) and a Dark Charge Attack (d), with the Fast Attack being Bite (Bi) and the Charge Attack being Crunch (Cr), with an IV of 84 (84) and the Attack stat being a "Battle with the Best of Them" (Go Instinct!) (A1)".

This does lead to some problems, as you can probably already anticipate. For example, I've got a Marowak named "F88-SlDi00=", which might confuse anyone who doesn't have the name "Fandango" in their username. What this one stands for is "Female (F) Ground (8)/Ground (8) - Mud Slap (Sl) /Dig (Di) 100% IV (00) All Stats Equal (=)" because I gave the most often used types (Lightning, Ice, Fighting, Rock, Water, Grass, Dragon, Earth, Fire, Psychic) specific Numbers and letters and the rest go with the first letter in the type (d for Dark, s for Steel) with the exception of Flying, which I call "y" (as f is used for Fairy).

I've found this to be extremely useful when trying to quickly find Pokémon to attack in Raids, particularly when I'm looking at Golem's that are either awesome against a Raid boss or Terrible. (ie: Rock or Ground vs Zapdos, for example) So when I've got 10 seconds to figure out if a Pokémon is useful in a raid battle, I can't open it up in the Pokémon list, check, then go into the Raid window to add that particular Pokémon to my list because there just isn't enough time.

So a few names:

Ttar: Mdd-BiCr84A1
(Male/Dark/Dark - Bite/Crunch/84IV/Attack 15)
Ttar: Fd4-BiSE93D1
(Female/Dark/Rock/Bite/Stone Edge/93IV/Defense 15)
Rydon: M88-SlEQ91AH
(Male/Ground/Ground-Mud Slap/Earthquake/91IV/Attack and Stamina top stats)
Vaporeon: M55-WGAT80A2
(Male/Water/Water-Water Gun/Aqua Tail/80IV/Attack 13-14)
Eggecute: Ma6-ZHSB91AH
(Male/Psychic/Grass - Zen Headbutt/Solar Beam/91IV/Attack Stamina top stats)
Etc.

I do one exception to this - for my dedicated Defenders, I replace the M/F for Gender with a "1" so that I can sort by Name and get to my Defenders up quick enough to put one on a gym if I'm on a bus or a passenger in my car (never, of course, when I'm driving or stopped at a red light! Never, never never. Never. Ever. cough you believe me, right?).
Eg:
Donphan: 13s-CoHS60A3
(Defender/Fighting/Steel - Counter/Heavy Slam/60IV/Attack 11-12)
(it's alevel 30 wild caught Phampy, I've got a LOT of Phampy candy these days.)
Blissey: 1af-ZHDG84A1
(Defender/Psychic/Fairy - Zen Headbutt/Dazzling Gleam/84IV/Attack 15)

If fast and charge moves are same type, they get a type symbol in front. If fast and/or charge moves are SE against something that mon resists, they get a type symbol in back. If they have a legacy move, there's an apostrophe. Else it's moveset, iv distribution, level.
