Pokemon Go on Kindle Fire tablet

My son is trying to play Pokemon Go on his 5th generation Kindle Fire tablet. I know how to bypass the amazon app store and download the game, and I have a mobile hotspot thing so that (in theory) he can stay connected to WiFi and use my cell phone data.

But his game keeps constantly crashing and it is pretty much impossible to play. I am not sure if this is due to trying to play on mobile WiFi or whether the 5th gen Kindle Fire is just really crappy (7th generation is available now for ~$50)

Has anyone else tried playing Pokemon Go on a tablet over mobile WiFi and had success?

Not a tablet, but I tried on the latest gen iTouch and it had the same issue. It kept crashing despite the WiFi signal being good.

I play on a Lenovo TAB3 7 Essential.

Basically, I got sick of my phone not being available, or PoGo not registering distance etc if I used my phone for anything other than PoGo.
The tablet was cheap, and as long as PoGo is all I run, then it runs fine. It is basically a dedicated PoGo device.
It runs through my mobile phone hotspot and I have done it for months.

As for your specific tablet, I have no experience with it.
