Pogomoves has their best Gym Defenders List Out!

I'm assuming this is based on raw DPS output on defense without considering the most likely Pokemon a defender will face. However, its awesome information is starting to get out there!

Best Defenders based on raw DPS are:
1. Blissey (Pound/Hyper Beam 100%)
2. Tyranitar (Bite/Crunch 82%; Iron Tail/Crunch 74%)
3. Legacy Lapras (Ice Beam/Ice Shard 81%; Ice Shard/Dragon Pulse 70%)
4. Dragonite (Steel wing, Outrage 80%; Steel Wing; Dragon Pulse 71%)
5. Legacy Golem (Mud Slap/Ancient Power 74%; Rock Throw/Ancient Power 66%)
6. Rhydon (Mudslap/Earthquake)
7. Exeggutor
8. Vaporeon (Vaporeon, Aqua Tail)
9. Jolteon (Volt Switch, Discharge)
10. Poliwrath (Bubble, Dynamic Punch)
11. Flareon (Fire Spin, Flame Thrower)
12. Machamp (Bullet Punch, Dynamic Punch)
13. Slowbro (Confusion, Ice Beam)
14. Espeon (Confusion, Psybeam)
15. Omastar (Rock Throw, Rockslide)

I don't know how much we can trust this list as Snorlax is not present but I think it does give some insight

In my opinion, the top defenders (given CP placement, and typing are)

Blissey (Zen Headbutt and any moveset) Snorlax (Zen Headbutt and any moveset) Tyranitar Dragonite Lapras (Ice Shard/Ice Beam) Rhydon (Mudslap/Earthquake or Stone Edge) Exeggutor Vaporeon Poliwrath (with Bubble) Slowbro (with Confusion)

What does everyone think?

Oh, please... basing defender rank on their attack output is ridiculous. Ignoring the dodgability of moves and the defender's stamina/defense is just dumb...

Yea, this is the problem with this, you got Jolteon, Flareon and Espeon up there xD - obvious bad defenders. This is kind of a.. tanky attacker list

Not too accurate... I will not trust those list...
Without Snorlax in Top Defender is a Lie...

2 Blisseys didn't even place in the top 100? What?

No Snorlax and Lapras IS-DP better than IS-Bliz? wtf.

This is the kind of list you can make just by looking at the pokemon's moves, it can give you some idea, but its definitely not something to rely on, this is why we are waiting on GamePress to do the math

Really, any website claiming such calculated "best XXX list" is not as useful as players sharing experiences! Truth says more than theories.
Besides, DPS is just one of the many factors we needed to account for. Selecting defender solely based on DPS is naive.
Speaking of pogomoves. I don't trust any defender list that includes Tyranitar in the top 5. It's a joke in defense just like Rhydon, but only worse. Don't believe me? Try to attack it with Machamp or any other Fighting mon.

I really don't know what list to trust... Here is another one which has Blissey ZH/HB as the top available defender while it is #119 in the link you posted. At least this one has Snorlax up there in the mix.

Thank you.

FWIW, it is not my list, but another site I found which has updated information for Gen 2. I really like how the site is organized.

This site should be avoided completely with such bad information...

No need to waste time reading anything else there...

There is a mistake with Zen headbutt on pogomoves.
They take 3 energy per hit instead of 10. That's why Snorlax and ZH Blissey are low in the rankings.

Otherwise it's a reliable mathematic ranking. It does not take dodging anf typing into account.

My own opinion for Blissey's best defensive moveset.

Pound/Dazzling Gleam ( with ZH/DG close 2nd )

Here's a vid with ZH/DG vs P/HB moveset ( https://youtu.be/v3EtoQuksp4 )

Pound with STAB seems to do very close dmg per hit as compared to ZH, but it has the added advantage of being faster than ZH, thus charging up DG faster, making it more annoying to dodge. DG will also do SE into majority of the top attackers ( like dragonites, machamps, tyranitars ).
