Please explain how to get an "EX Raid Pass"

Is all I have to do to obtain an EX Raid Pass is participate in a raid of any level at a gym at a Starbucks or Sprint store?
I assume just spinning the disk at one of those stores is not sufficient. Please advise.

You have to win a raid at the gym and then get lucky.

Spinning the disk is not sufficient. Winning a gym battle is not sufficient. Failing a solo/group raid is not sufficient.

yeah pretty much I think though funny enough my first ex raid pass I got despite not having done a raid at the sprint store in weeks but for the second one it counted my victory from the mewtwo raid last week.

Here is how to get an EX raid pass: Don't spend any money on premium raid passes, just follow your normal routine, don't go to sponsored stops or gyms if you can avoid them. Sooner or later Niantic will realize (or better said, we players will make Niantic realize) about how stupid is the hole EX raid system idea and Mewtwo will become available worldwide, not only for people that has a "insert partner company name here" nearby.

And don't tell me this just a test, in which kind of test users have nothing to say about the results of it? Let's be serious, nothing will change, those EX raids are the end product, we all know it.

The truth is Mewtwo was announced 5 weeks ago, the announcement said it was comming on the following weeks and we are still waiting for it. I don't know what Niantic understands for "soon".

This is just another big slap to the face to rural and small city players. So please, don't contribute to it, most of the player base will really apprecciate it.

And this is comming from someone that has raided at sponsored gyms on Rodamco shopping malls and see it stupid if the make me go there again just to fight a Mewtwo without even knowing if there will be more people there. We all should be able to fight and catch him on our area, where we normally play, with our friends and family and the people we have met playing during this hole year. I don't want to be that guy who gets an ex raid pass while I see 99% of the people on our WhatsApp group don't get it. Even if I get it, it won't be the same knowing that the players I play everyday have not had the same chance.

Niantic doesn't want complaints from 50 cars showing up at a church.

Funny, our Starbucks gym is located in a narrow street infront of a church.

Another problem with the EX pass invite system: players getting the invitation, and the raid occurring while they're out of town. Which is what has happened to me. My EX raid is tonight BUT IN A DIFFERENT STATE. Stupid system.

i understand the gripe as i travel a lot too, and at first i was kinda mad at it but think about it, the whole game is location based. What would you propose they do during this test phase (which btw seems to be taking forever), follow you and put a mewtwo raid wherever you are?

Maybe make the EX raid pass good for up to 3 raids spread over the next few weeks but you can use it only once. It might be a non-issue depending on how frequently invitations will be sent. Or it might be a huge issue if this was my one shot at participating for a long time. Some communication from them would be nice.

And also, it's stopped me from doing any raids while out of town. I certainly don't want my next invitation to be where I was on vacation last week. Really stupid business model, as I have bought zero passes this week.

I would hope that on vacation you would NOT be googling for starbucks or sprint stores with gyms and chasing raids, but to each his own I guess lol. But like I said, i get it, i travel a lot too, and my raids up until i got home two weeks ago was all over globe and for nothing -- it is what it is.

EX Raid Passes continue to be a problem. You can't get one for a really long time, when you do get one, the time and place of the raid is impossible, and then when you can use it, THE CATCH SCREEN GLITCHES OUT AND YOU DON'T GET YOUR MEWTWO. And Niantic couldn't care less. They acknowledge that it's a known glitch, but don't make it right. They just shrug their shoulders and say, "Eh, you'll get another EX raid pass someday." After all the raiding and waiting and hoping and finally having the Mewtwo in your hands, only to be cheated out of it. The system has NOT been improved. Mewtwo needs to be a legendary raid boss like any other, and everyone needs to have both a decent shot at it, and recourse if, through no fault of the player, he or she is cheated out of a Mewtwo. I don't recommend even trying, when they're not even supported, whether you invest time and money in them or not.
