Odd thing to be talking about, but why do I frequently see level 30-40 players that arent't on local chat sites stick a mon into a gym and then never show up again? Where do these people even come from?
Could be several reasons.
1. They might be in you chat because a) they don't want to, b) they don't know about it. But if they just show up once, then that isn't likely.
2. They might just be passing by. I've seen several players in gyms whom I've never seen before or have seen since.
3. Could also be spoofers.
Most players aren’t on discord or whatever chat site .... besides a lot of players see an empty spot when driving or whatever they throw a Pokémon in the gym ... the real question is why does it bother you so much? I’m guessing it’s because you are one of those assholes who thinks that the gyms in your neighborhood are for “locals only”
IMO just about anyone who regards themself as a Pokémon player should be at least level 30 by now. Often I drive to work and pass 20 gyms and none my color (blue), so a factor could be certain colors know to go to certain areas bc easy to put in and dominate. Spoofers might know that, too.
I no longer look at Discord, if I see people playing and a raid starting I ask them if they want to battle it. They’d have to release a really good one that is “tier 6 Mewtwo tough” for me to report the raid and then wait for people to drive there.
When I'm visiting family I'll often throw a Pokemon in the nearby gyms. People can come from different areas. You'll likely not remember my avatar a year later.
Otherwise they may have just taken a day trip, may have had to go to a store outside of their normal area, etc... And ended up passing by "your" gym on their way.
There are probably dozens of gyms I've only been in once.
