My wife does lifeproof, even though iPhones are much sturdier now and she is indoors a lot. My latest phone LG Stylo 2 was a budget/longer battery choice (had Galaxy S5). 10 days ago I got nostalgic and walked extra for a 10k egg, dropped it, cracked LGs glass (had a bumper type case). I ordered a new battery for my old S5 and it is holding up charge but SIM card not in it yet...might switch back for the near future.
Main point buy a specialized rugged phone, and/or go extra-double protection with a quality case.
Outdoor phone for PoGo?
Sorry (not really) for another How-about-this-phone question; I'l try to make it of general interest.
As my current phone has cracked its casing, degraded its battery, and recently the screen started to bleed blue I am considering a replacement. As every now and then I feel the urge to play while standing in pouring rain I am thinking that a rough or outdoor phone might be a good choice. In particular, I am looking at the Galaxy Xcover 4. Does anybody have experience with this model? or with another outdoor phone suitable for PoGo?

I'm using galaxy s7 active. Highly recommend (unfortunately, it costs a kings ransom and is ATT exclusive in the us). You can throw it around, soak it in water, cut out lines on it with a razor, whatever - doesn't even need a case. Definitely get a screen cover though - when I didn't have one, I very quickly started to get a lasting smudge where I spin the pokeball (only visible without screen protector on though). I use the tempered glass screen protectors instead of the plastic ones, though tempered glass screen protectors only last a couple of months (cracks in the protector spread very fast) - but I'm willing to buy replacements regularly in order to feel glass under my finger instead of plastic. Battery life is only okay, but it does quick charge, so I don't usually need to bring the power bank.
The normal s-series leaves much to be desired in terms of durability, but the active and note are both built very well. Notes need rubber bumpers added to corners if you want to go caseless (as would basically any other phone being used without a case) - I use sugru air during silicone for this
