Ones that got away

What are the best Pokémon that ran away?

Today, I had a 2606 Snorlax with L/BS and about 76% IV flee after one ball. Last month, I had a 2700 Dragonite with SW/DP and 48 IV flee after two balls. Two months ago, I had a 2100 Lapras run after one ball (don't know the details).

If it ran away, how do you know what moveset and the IVs?
All I ever know is the CP. Once I catch the mon I'm able to look up the IVs. And can see the moveset.

I'm not a cheater. My son also has an account and caught the Snorlax (913 CP) and Dragonite. They have the same moves and IVs always.

2200+ Lapras that they said was a 'wonder'. One great throw with a ultraball and berry and he ran. Everyone else around me caught him. Maybe 50 people congratulating and celebrating. ?

2 Dragonites, one last week, the other 3 or 4 months ago, the older one had 2770 CP, the first big mon I had seen with CP ???, ran after 4 ultraballs with berry...when I saw the diary I wanted to kill all Niantic members xD.

The newest one had 1500CP but also made me mad, it ran on the first ultra.

NOTE: Those are the only 2 Dragonites I have ever found in the wild and both escaped me...probably had really bad IV and moveset and make me think if it really worth to ran for them, the only big mon that seems to have less flee rate for me is Snorlax, I have catched 6, no one escaped.

Just keep telling yourself they had bad IV's/movesets. I do the same thing so I don't jump off a bridge ;)

Yes, it is the only way xD, if I don't tell this to myself I would probably just left the game some time ago. I think they should add some kind of berries to prevent mons fly so hard...It is hard enough to find a wild mon like Dragonite, Lapras, Charizard or Snorlax just to see them going away...

Everyone is talking about how their Snorlaxes escape and here I am... catching an Arcanine from 1000 CP as best catch ever.

My best catch was Lapras ~CP1700 with the best offensive moveset

Knock on wood I've mostly been lucky with strong mons. Probably b/c I am extremely careful to get that Great Bonus, w/ curve if possible.

So far I've only lost 1 Lapras out of the big ones. I'm 1/1 w/ Dragonite, 9/9 w/ Snorlax, 6/7 w/ Lapras.

The Lapras I did lose was pretty heartbreaking, though. He only had decent IV's but was > 2k CP

This is not enough, you are just lucky, I am very careful too and 2/2 Dragonites got away from me with curve balls, great throws, ultra ball and berries, one on the first shot.

It is just a random % that the mon goes away no matter what you do...I got a wild Charizard some months ago and it took me literally 70+ ultras with berries, 90% of them great throws...and it did not flew from me.

It would be nice that the catch bonus as you level up would be greater, or add some kind of modifier to player level to prevent this from happening, or some other thing like if you have already lost 1/2 last evolutions mons the next one you find has more probability to stay and let you catch it.

I have never met Lapras or Snorlax in the wild. My most spectacular encounters were two Dragonites (one around 1700 and the other around CP 2300), which I both caught successfully. Other rare high level Pokemon were a 1860 CP Muk, a 1646 Weezing and a 1990 CP Vaporeon as well as a 1888 CP Poliwrath, which I could catch too. I'm lucky enough to never have experienced a situation like yours which would make me feel slightly suicidal.

Funny how rare vaporeon/jolteon/flareon is. I've only seen one vaporeon, zero of the others.

There is so much randomness in these catches. Within 2 days, saw 2 Vaporeons in the wild:

  • Caught one with 1800 CP, 87% IV and WG / HP
  • Next one fled with 382 CP

Used ultra balls on both with razz berries and great throws. Got the first one on the first throw and the lower CP one fled after the first throw... Go figure.

the only good story of mon than ran away was a Dragonite with ???? CP. Went to take down a gym with a couple of friends and one spotted it with Pokemesh in the street right next to us, i was level 20 and it was my first wild Dragonite, got so nervous i missed tons of pokeballs, one of my friends caught it quickly but had low CP, the other ran away and it was also ???? As my ultra balls were flying I got even more nervous, than I've finished the great balls and when i hit the common pokeballs it fled. I was devastated for quite a few minutes lol.
