I think this is probably connectivity issues - either with your phone or some transient server-side issue (there seem to have been more complaints about that than usual the past couple of days). That sounds more plausible than that player having some sort of evil exploit that lets them crash players attacking their mons.

That one player that messes up the gym again...
I've tried to battle a gym but again I got kicked out the second the Blissey of a certain player appeared to the fight. The fight caused one of my fainted mons to replace my first one, and then die, then the one I chose came back and then I got kicked out of the battle again with Network Error and all gyms gave the same error until I've restarted the app (this did not allow me to attack the same Blissey though, so restarting did not fix the initial problem).
I had battled a Ditto there previously, several times, before the Blissey's turn came, and there were no problems with the Ditto battle. Similar stuff happened when fighting against someone's Venusaur a few days ago. I am not sure if it was the same player or not, although this time I've seen the name so I'll watch out to see if it's only going on with that player everywhere.

I'm thinking that it's not the player trying to exploit this, but more like there might be something the player owns that might be causing these crashes and Niantic did not know about the bug. I'll have to find another gym to fight today and see what's going on. It's just odd that I can fight all mons just not that one player. Last time I've fought a gym where the moment I've reached the final player's Venusaur, i'd be kicked out, but there was no problem fighting the ones in front. Same as with the Ditto here, I've kicked it out with no problem.
