Omastar solo report

Omastar was the new boss I was most looking forward to trying. It took me three tries, but on the winning attempt, I had 21 seconds left.

The winning lineup was as follows:

2629 Exeggutor BS/SoB
2471 Exeggutor BS/SoB
2420 Exeggutor BS/SoB
1905 Vileplume RL/SoB
1947 Victreebel RL/LB
1905 Victreebel RL/SoB

In all three attempts, I led off with the three Exeggutors. The Omastar had rock blast for a charge move, and I'm not sure of the quick move.

In the first failed attempt, I put a 2111 RL/SoB Venusaur in the fourth spot, followed by a 2546 C/DP Machamp, and a 2111 RS/DP Poliwrath. The Poliwrath was knocked out with about 5 seconds left, so there was no time to continue with my B- team. Based on the amount of red showing in the Omastar's HP bar, I'd say I would have needed about another 10-15 seconds to finish him off. It wasn't particularly close.

For the second attempt, I swapped out the Machamp and Poliwrath for a 2864 TS/TB Raikou and a 2790 CB/TB Zapdos. Again, the last mon (Zapdos) was knocked out with about five seconds left, and there was no time to heal or continue with the next lineup. It was closer, though, as the remaining red in Omastar's HP bar was barely visible. Five more seconds, or one more successfully launched charge move, would have done the job.

On the third attempt, I decided to try a glass cannon approach, replacing the Venusaur & legendary electrics with the Vileplume and two Victreebels. I figured that they would die quicker, but do more damage in the meantime, leaving me with enough time to mop up with the autoselect B-team. Amazingly, this lineup was so much more effective that the Omastar was dead with 21 seconds left, and with the second Victreebel still sitting with half of its HP.

The bottom line is that beating Omastar is all about using grass mons with solar beam. After a few failed attempts to dodge rock blast, I stopped bothering. I was still able to get off two solar beams from each of the SoB attackers, and that was enough.

Scooter - Congrats, great job, and thanks for the info. Below is the team I have constructed. Your comments on it would be appreciated.
2684 Exeggutor BS/SoB L35
2429 Exeggutor BS/SoB L31
2412 Exeggutor BS/SeB L31
2405 Exeggutor BS/SoB L31
2401 Exeggutor BS/SoB L31
2389 Exeggutor C/SoB L31
The above are in CP order. In my line-up, I think I will put the 2412 Exeggutor BS/SeB in 6th position because it has Seed Bomb, a two bar charge move that I could deploy more quickly in the final seconds.

I think that lineup looks better than mine, so you should be fine. Your BS/SeB Eggy compares favorably to my RL/LB Victreebel, and your extra BS/SoB Eggy should be better than my Vileplume.

Obviously, a double grass moveset is a little better for this application. In fact, just today, I fast-TM'd my 2629 Exeggutor, which previously had ES. I just don't see much use for a generalist Exeggutor, when I have so many other better generalists. That said, I wouldn't touch confusion on an Eggy. If it were me, I might charge-TM that one to get Psychic, and try to get another BS/SoB, but if you like the C/SoB moveset, it should be sufficient as a part of your Omastar team, considering how much time I had left.

Scooter - When you state "I wouldn't touch confusion on an Eggy" does that mean you would not use an Eggy with confusion or that you would not TM and Eggy with confusion? I think the latter, but want to check. Thanks.

Sorry, I meant I would not TM it. Confusion is such a powerful move for a psychic type, and obviously not available anymore.

I'm not really sure what the best application is for a C/SoB Exeggutor, though. BS/SoB seems to be more effective against types that are weak to grass, and solar beam is not as devastating against neutral targets. I suppose C/SoB would work well against Poliwrath or Tentacruel.

Finally a reason to Fast TM my biggest Victreebel...however, my top 3 Exeggutors are 2554 C/SoB; 2510 c/SoB; 98% EX/Psy 2494...next an 82% 2400 BS/SB. Probably not gonna try to solo this one...at least I already have 3 Omas at 2150+ and 200 candy.
I don't normally watch YouTube raid videos, but I checked some of the new ones out...guess the main new one will be a Victreebel Raid boss duo

I just played around with some Pokebattler simulations, and I was surprised how much less effective C/SoB is compared to BS/SoB. But, as I said above, I wouldn't TM confusion on an Eggy. I'm pretty sure your BS/SoB Eggy would be by far your most effective against Omastar, despite its lower CP. With that one, plus the two C/SoB's, I think if you added three more high-level big grasses (i.e. some combination of Victreebel, Vileplume, Venusaur) with grass quick moves plus solar beam, you might be able to do it.

I failed with a similar team. The difference may be that most of my Exeggutors have Confusion and I am unwilling to TM them. Also, I had poor signal quality and the battle clock started at 170 seconds. 10 seconds lost right at the start!
