Omastar raid, big thanks to Scooter

So I was able to complete my first solo Omastar raid today and get a couple of fast TM out of it. Big thanks to Scooter who a few days ago said to not worry a ton about dodging. My team..
2711 Exeggcutor B/SB
2411 Venusaur VW/SB
2104 Venusaur RL/SB
2102 Venusaur RL/SB
1899 Victreebel RL/LB
1940 Vileplume RL/SB

Omastar had MS/HP. I only dodged 2 HP, both with the top spot Eggy. He got.off 3 SB, then the 3 Venusaur got off 2 SB each and my Victreebel cleaned up with 2 hits of RL. Dodging is not important if you can get 3 SB on your opening attacker. Thanks again. This was my 3rd time trying and first win on my first try with 17 seconds to spare.

Did you try using the on-site guide first and not encounter success? What changes do you think should be made?

I see that you aimed for 2 Solar Beam for most of your Pokemon, I'm glad that worked out.

I did. I feel like I just worried too much about taking the early HP that I dodged too much. For me, I felt like once I got the 2 dodges with my first attacker that I did not need to dodge anything else the rest of the time against HP. I was able to get off one SB, then take a HP and use the energy it gave me to get off my second SB quicker than when I was dodging.

Congrats! I will keep your suggestions in mind when I attempt to solo Omastar, my next t3 target.

(When I had the opportunity yesterday I couldn't abandon the noobs who joined me in the lobby ;)

Glad to hear that worked for you. I occasionally see people post on here that they timed out in a solo raid, with a team that is as strong or stronger than my team that wins with plenty of time remaining (and not just against Omastar). I have to believe that, usually, the problem is too much dodging. For many solo raids, I don't dodge at all, and just try to pick a team that will allow me to survive while spamming DPS the whole time. There are cases where some dodging is necessary (e.g. Omastar with ancient power), but even then, the less dodging you can get away with, the better. And it seems like the movesets that you have to dodge against tend to be the easiest ones to dodge, which is good, but sometimes that makes it tempting to dodge more than you should.

Another lesson I learned from my first Omastar solo was that, strangely, sometimes glass cannons actually help survivability. On my first attempt that first time, I had a Machamp and a tanky fighting Poliwrath in the last two slots, figuring their super-effective damage would be enough, and that the Poliwrath would ensure survivability. Not only were all six mons knocked out with a few seconds remaining, but the Omastar still had quite a bit of HP left. Same when I put a Raikou and a Zapdos in the last two spots, although it was closer. On the third run, I put two Victreebels in the last two slots, figuring they would get knocked out even quicker, but do more damage and leave me with time to re-enter. It turned out that the double super effective DPS of the Victreebels killed the Omastar with over 20 seconds remaining, and the last Victreebel still standing with half its HP. Survivability means killing the boss before he kills you!
