Omastar better counter than Vaporeon?

While preparing for Moltres' raids I noticed that Omastar ranks better than Vaporeon as a counter (Supreme vs Good counter).

Is it because Moltres has double weakness to Rock? Besides that all stats seems to be equal or favor Vaporeon.

Omastar has 2x fire resistance...

Probably that and omastar double resist fire.

And because Omastar has a double resistance to fire (one from water, one from rock). So Rock Omastar does 1.96x damage and takes 0.51x damage. Almost a 4X advantage.

My only 2 Omastars are Mud Shot/Ancient Power...if you were gambling with someone else's 2 spare TMs and only concerned with the matchup vs Moltres, would you be more concerned about Mud or AP?

Omastar is a much better damage dealer due to it's 1.96x damage modifier against Moltres (assuming you have the correct legacy moveset). That being said, it will also die faster that vaporeon since it has much less stamina. Still, it is optimal if you're trying to take down a moltres with a wmall group.

You likely answered my above question about MS/AP Omastar, sticking with already made 2800+ Vaporeons a better idea than trying to improve an Omastar that is legacy ideal

MS/AP isn't legacy i think. If it is the same level as your Vape it will outperform it

Trying to gauge how bad Ancient power is, it is a rock move, but would risking getting hydro pump while trying to get the other rock move make it a needless chance

Depends on the opponents charge tbh. It's slower...a lot slower than RB but does more damage. Much like RB on Golem if you face a super fast and unpredictable charge you may pay the price. On single bar moves you may do even more damage. In general RT is safer and better but AP will do the job.

On Pokebattler I just saw how bad mud fares as a fast move vs Moltres, no rolling the dice and I have more of those anyway. Thanks for the info and I'm excited I have two Moltres spots filled!

Oh no doubt you would want WG.

But yeah we are talking investment here. If you have some great counters just hope your team has a few too. A few should be all that's required from each player in most organized areas.

Considering he double resists fire this effectually doubling his HP hes pretty close. This brings that HP closer to Vape. He also has a higher def stat. Add to that double damage and he's in a whole different higher class than Vape.

If you have a high level Vape that's great. If you have a high level Omastar with even just a rock charge do not think Vape is a sub for him.

I really like the idea of Omastar, very rare in my area especially considering the new raiders. I didn't get even 1 until adventure week...then I got two: MS/AP 2147 and 2002 plus 130 candies but no Omanytes around to evolve...I'm going to play around on Pokebattler with them to give myself a better idea of this Raid matchup.

The real hope for Omastar is that one day they will make him relevant by allowing him a rock quick move again. Both he and Kabutops have been ruined to this point by that foolishness.

Granted this guy is only level 30 and 73% IV's, but has the legacy rock charge move. I've been testing him out vs. Articuno, and he seems pretty good!

A park less than 1km from me was an Omanyte nest 3 months ago. I did grind Omanyte candy a bit, but didn't catch enough good Omanytes.
Little did I expect Omastar to be so useful now!
All I have now is a CP 2k WG/HP Omastar (13 attack), and a 1.9k WG/AP one (15 attack).
