Old gyms vs new gyms

What gym system did you like the most? In my opinion the gyms now are way to easy. I liked the challenge a lvl 10 gym gave me. Keep the raids of course but change the gyms back!

Old Gym System by far.

They should have kept the old 10 lvl gym system introducing more gyms, gold badges and 1 type per mon including legendary.

I also would have like to see the placing in the tower be more closely related to the amount of prestige added (which in theory would allow low CP options). Secondly, it should take more than 1 defeat to knock a mon out of the bottom rung of a Lv 10 tower.

definately something like this can be tweaked even more for rpestige, etc, but what many people wanted was mainly 1 mon per gym not a freaking 10 blisseys prestiged by a damn gastly 10 cp

Old gym system by far. You can't even compete for the top spot anymore and yet alone you can't show off the grind you did to get to show off your Pokemon's true CP. I used to like to guess what other player's IVs were based on the CP of their Pokemon placed in gyms and see who had the better overall one. Made you wanna grind harder since the rest of your town can see actual CP and who had the strongest Pokemon per species. Now there's no competition whatsoever with the current system.

New one by far. Spoofers ruined the old gym system. The new system rendered Spoofers mostly irrelevant. The Blissey towers were bad, too. Prestiging was OK. With a single species rule (easy to do) and eliminating the spoofers (probably very hard to do), the old gym system might be OK.

Spoofers haven't been defeated by the new gym system if that's what you mean. They could have simply changed the 1 Pokemon rule in the old gym system to obtain the same result as you are referring to.

I wish niantic keep the gym system with some improvement : make it 10 spot, no decay, no boring 3 time easy battle, keep the one mons per gym though
And give reward for attacking gyms also, not just for defending gym..
So trainer's can chose whether to be an attacker or defender..

But if i have to choose between 2 gym system as it is,
My vote goes to the old system
Yes it has flaws, but atleast its not as boring as the new one

If it were me it would work like this.

Have 10 spots

No duplicates

First pokemon in, last one battled. Last pokemon in, first battled.

Keep the motivation system. Only way to combat the spoofers. Would still need to battle a total of 30 times. Old way was close to 50 battles, all full strength. Completely overkill.

Decrease the rate at which pokemon lose motivation. Not by a lot, but maybe 10-15% faster than what it is now.

Nothing will be perfect for every single person. I like the old system better because I could collect 100 coins a day easily. But I have to say the new system is better for the majority of the players.

Being able to choose if you want to be a gym attacker or defender with relevant rewards for both is a very cool idea. Never thought of that. Personally i would gear myself as an attacker

Old system gave the game more depth. By means of prestigers, prestiging, battling for the highest spot, no CP decay.

Really, the only thing they should have done is introduce the 1 Pokemon limit rule to avoid Blissey towers. The badge system is a nice addition btw.

They could stay at 6 slots. By prestiging you will be ranked higher in the gym, which means you will be fought later and your motivation decay will be slower. Pokémon with the lowest motivation level will be kicked out by the next raid boss so that new ones of the same team can enter.
But there needs to be a smarter reason for staying longer than 8 hours in a gym.

Both are flawed.

The old gym system would have been OK if there were no dupes, and people were limited to 5 gyms. It was too hard for the lower level player to compete. The game was dying. And Blissey towers were boring.

The new system is flawed, but much better than the old system.

The old system was ruined by:
1. Spoofers
2. Blissey
3. The CP ranking, which shut out new/casual players, and limited gyms to about four or five different pokemon.

The old system was usually more entertaining to battle, but also more of a hassle and time waster when all you wanted to do was collect some coins. So the new system is much more balanced in who can benefit, since the old system made it much easier for one team to overwhelm an entire area and monopolize every single gym, so no one on the other teams could get any coins. That was incredibly frustrating and tiresome and tended to ruin that whole aspect of the game.

However, frequently the real question is, "Do you prefer the old gym glitches or the new gym glitches?" In the old system, it was infuriating dealing with the constant dodge glitches every single time a defender used a charge attack, which made fighting gyms take two or three times longer than it should have. But now it's the endless network errors instead, which sometimes make claiming a gym outright impossible.

I don't know what could have possibly been challenging about the old gymsystem.
It was a team competition at best, with a ruleset that made sure that the biggest team wins.
Even in the dominating team only a small number of players benefited from it. For the highlevel players at this time competed about the number of gyms they put a pokemon in, which resulted in shaving and so on.
I know about all the highlevel players in my town.
A few days ago at a raid, one of them who got to level 40 this spring was asked by a young fellow to show him his badges.
Sensing an admirer he did so, and found himself laughed at and told that some of his counts were, well, suspicious.
This young, low level son of a peach took a last look at him and went on with his mates and his business.

The new gymrules just made sure that it's no longer enough to be in the largest team with a number of high CP pokemon to feel good about you.

Let me give you another point to downvote.

I hope for gymrules that will reward coins for skills.
Individual skills. Maybe like the prestiging fights we had. And for PvP.
I'm sure that will put a dent to the self-esteem of some of those bigheads.
And i can't wait to hear their complains if it ever comes to that.

In the old system I got my 100 coin every 21 hours.
In the new system I get 50 coin a day.
You'd think I'd prefer the old system, but the game was going to die if changes were not made. If new players can't play due to blissey towers everywhere how could the game survive?
I'm so happy to see so many new and returning players.
Raiding (thus forcing us all to have to mass communicate) has brought our PoGo community together.
We often get together for lurer parties. I love it.
Spoofing is not as bad in the new gym system:
"Bruce" our local spoofer made many of us quit,
(he formed blissey towers everywhere.) fortunately the new gym system came quick enough before we all gave up. And now some of those players have returned.
Spoofing still happens but it is not nearly as awful in this new gym system.

Prefer the new gym system would like the old rewards, though.

Will always choose the current system over the old one. Why one would want to go back to a system dominated by strat bots is beyond me.

With this event I finally took my best Dragonite to 3355 before I ran out of dragonite candy, I also took my average Mewtwo to level 30---DT/outrage and C/shadowball can beat an entire gym, all 3 rounds...no fainting, after the gym won just 2 hyper potions

I still miss the old gyms, they came up with the idea of 1 mon per type which would've suited the old system & got rid of the Blissey towers. Motivation decay was also a good idea but decays far too quickly. The gym disc & raids, again good ideas which could've been implemented with the old gyms. What we have now is a system that is boring, not challenging in the slightest & the only reason I still do them is for the coins. If they had put some of the new ideas into the old system & used a modicum of common sense we would have a system right now that suited everyone. I sincerely hope they change things up & make defence relevant again.
