Now that Rayquaza is almost over...
Has anyone else felt it is the most difficult of the legendaries to catch? I am so annoyed with the number of times I have lost Rayquaza because I could not catch it. I am not sure how many times I beat it (I would guess at least 20 as I have 200 legendary raid wins) but I only caught it 4 times. I generally had 12 pokeballs each time I tried.
It is a little more difficult to get great & excellent throws for me, something about the way I throw the curveball makes getting up to RayQ's head more difficult. But still I would say that I average 12 pokeballs per try and get 6 greats and 3 excellents each time.
Maybe it is because I only have silver on the dragon badge? (Everything else is gold.) Not sure if this affects it. Anyway it has been very annoying and I am sorta happy it will go away soon, although I never got a really great one. Two of them weren't even wonders and my best one is a 91 that only has an attack stat of 13.
Is this common among everyone or am I having really bad luck with RayQ?

20/25, definitely the best of all my legendaries. It seriously improved after I got the silver dragon badge during the Dratini event, and I’m one of those who usually gets it with 1 or 2 balls left (a lot of sweating and patience to hit it right after attack, in the lower position and with great shot circle)
I think not having gold badge made it slightly more difficult to catch it, but luckily we got the Dratini event, so that problem was easily solved.
It also took me a few tries before I really got the hang of throwing at it. I really messed up on my first try and probably failed to catch like 4-5 out of my first six tries.
But since then it's been going really well. In the end I caught 39 out of 51, which is better than I anticipated.
Especially considering the weather here have been really bad. At times it's been so cold I barely managed to throw the ball. When it's not freezing I can get mostly Excellent throws, but some days I'm happy to get a couple.
Looking at past catch rates on Legendaries Rayquaza is probably the one I had best luck with. It's on par with Groudon, which was really easy to throw at.
It was one of the hardest for me until I figured it out. Initially, I had a hard time getting enough distance on the throw, partly due to my small phone. I was something like 2 out of my first 10, and then 9 out of 11 after that.
Lugia is actually a very similar throw to Rayquaza for me, so the Rayquaza practice has set me up well for Lugia. In four Lugia raids today, I had very few throws that were not either great or excellent curves.
