It was only a matter of time! This resolves the lvl 39 vs. lvl 40 issue. =]

I could do it. Never did. Makes no sense in this meta

it was probably 1 line of code, and it took them a year to fix it...

I guess it's one of the roadblocks on the way to opening up levels higher than 40?

Probably. Maybe Niantic could have fixed it a year ago if they wanted to, but it probably wasn't a priority at the time.

What's better is that it finally ends the moral debate on powering up to level 40. Some many were accused of cheating. Now that it's officially identified as a bug, these players, I included, can have a relief.

Acording to people (lvl 40 players) from SliphRoad reddit, you still cant power up your pokemon to lvl 40. You can only power it to lvl 39.5.

In other words those players were exploiting the system. Work they'd get some sort of soft ban or something.

No, the fact that some players found away around the bug, wasn't an exploit.

As someone with a family with shared devices where we log into and out of accounts I was fairly certain all the evidence was powering up to 40 was fine, and not was the bug.

Everything else you try to do on multiple devices:
Catch same pokemon --- fail
Spin same stop --- fail
Raid same mob --- share balls.
All made me 99% Convinced since powering to 40 worked, it wasn't the bug, the button disappearing was.
