Is Niantic about to have lied to our faces?

I am sure we all remember earlier this year that they said that there will be a major update every quarter of the year. We got gen 2 first quarter, then the gym update at the end of the second quarter. Now here we are on the second to last day of the third quarter and we have not a single word on the next big update. Yes, gen 3 is in the games code, but I highly doubt they would just suddenly drop it without any sort of build up for it. So what gives? Are they having technical issues with the next update? If so then they should have announced a delay or something like any other responsible company would do instead of just being completely silent. If they keep this up, Niantic is about to lose a whole lot of trust if they had any to begin with.
