A new version of pokemon go is available, would you like to update? (Rant)
So I turned on pogo after charging my phone for a while and to my great surprise there was a Larvitar near a pokestop 500m away. I threw on my jacket and headed out to get it, picking up a great pace as I had no idea how long it would be there. I caught a pidgey halfway, because exp is always nice. Larvitar was still on the tracker.
As I approach the pokestop I notice a red banner at the top of my phone saying: "A new version of pokemon go is available, would you like to update now?". No. Not interested. Where is the no-button? There is only "OK". I press the back-button on my phone repeatedly to no avail. I'm at the pokestop now, and I realise there is no other option than to give up and head into play store.
You have probably guessed how the story ends. 45 painfully slow megabytes later, I'm staring blankly at the new years loading screen, hoping that the larvitar will still be there. Nope. Despawned. I circle the pokestop a few times just in case, but no.
Thanks, Niantic. No, I didn't want to update. I had just walked 500 meters in great haste, all because I wanted a Larvitar. Not some minor text fixes. But that's all I got. And a Krabby I caught on the way home. Happy update, guys.

Thanks for the tip, maybe I can try that the next time it happens, unless niantic learns from their mistakes. I figured I didn't have time to try all options, and I was right. It would have been fine hadn't it been for the fact that it's cold outside and I wouldn't have gone out if it wasn't for the larvitar.
That sounds very frustrating. Sorry that happened to you.
I had just finished prestiging a gym today when the forced update happened. Then, when I went to put a pokemon in the gym, the message popped up that I had to update. I'm glad nobody snagged the spot while I was updating. It was very annoying having to use my data for the update. I had no idea that it would make me do this, and while the game was running. I'm not sure whether the update was available before this point, but from now on when I hear of an update, I'll try to download it from home as soon as I can.
