Need Help Deciding If A Pokemon Is Worth It

My question is this, I have a 76% magikarp. Not the best , I know. BUT it has 15 attack, 15 defense, and only 4 stam. Going deeper into it, will this magikarp do the same damage as a 96% magikarp with 15 attack, 15 defense, and 13 stam. I have several pokemon that have 15 attack but are around the 74%-80% with weaker defense and stam. Will my lower IV pokemon do the same damage as higher IV pokemon will because of the 15 attack stat the same?

Stamina IV translates to the actual HP value the Pokemon will have. In your case, a Magikarp with 13 stam will have 9 more hit points when maxed out than yours. This doesn't change upon evolution either. You'd ultimately be looking at a Gyarados with 12 less HP than a perfect, but still hits as hard and still takes the same amount of damage from each hit.

Interestingly enough, due to the game's rounding sometimes it's possible to have "fake perfects" where a Pokemon with 15/15/14 will have the same HP as one with 15/15/15, even though the CP will be slightly lower. They will perform exactly the same.

So in other words, having a lower IV pokemon with 15 attack is worth it in most cases? I mean i have some with 15 attack , 10 defense, and 8 stam. Are they worth it? or just wait till i come across something better? And in this case, the magikarp i have is worth it?

The more details you provide, the more/better answers you will get. What level magikarp? Will magikarp be easy to find after these generous gen 1/earth day events are over? At the least I'd wait til the end of April to decide/evolve (unless you are roadblocked in your Mew research quest and you need to evolve one sooner)

The fish in question is a 76% Magikarp, 15 attack, 15 defense, 4 stam, 5000 stardust to power up, im not sure what lvl that is. I want to know if it is worth evolving if it does the same damage as a higher IV magikarp would with 15 attack and 15 defense as well

5000 Stardust is most likely either level 29 or 30. 15a/15d/4s at level 30 will attack great, it'll just faint a few hits sooner. I personally wouldn't do it, I have 8 Gyarados and it wouldnt make my top squad without considerable investment. However, if my Mew research quest was stalled til I evolved a gyarados then I'd consider and compare this one to the others I had.

I would do evolve it personally. Against most raid bosses he would perform the same as you are most likely to die on a charge attack. A difference in so few HP would mean you would probably survive just one or two less fast attacks.

Gyarados is good but it's completely put to shame by Kyogre if you're lucky to have one.

Nonetheless, a L29/30 Gyarados with 15 Attack and 15 Defense with Zero Stardust spent is a great investment if you ask me.

When it gets down to the other stats being 10 or less it depends on what level it is. I caught a level 35 Machop with perfect attack and single digit other stats and still evolved it. Zero/minimal dust investments like that are always worth it. Had it been level 8 or something I would have trashed it immediately.
