My concern is this is going to make the big 7 the big 6. Nearly everyone has one of each of them. 6 slots in a gym. 7 big choices. Do the math. Just cuz CP doesn't effect placement doesn't mean those 7 big ones aren't still some of the hardest hitting bulkiest baddies around. I'm nervous but also excited
My best guess as to what the upcoming changes mean for your squad
First off, you will not need to be concerned much about your defending Pokemon IVs. I think if the same limits are in place you would need a max stock of 20ish defenders.
The only Pokemon that will have a use in the new system will be high tiered geneeralist attackers, high tier specialist attackers, and defenders. This will mean that you want as many as you can get of these two types of attackers. The generalists will be good for normal gyms. Having multiple specialists (in particular one with strength and bulk) will be huge for raids. We could probably make a list of the 15-20 Pokes that will serve these purposes. All others will have no real use.
Anyone else have a take on the new system? I know we are all waiting to see what rolls out before being sure of the real changes.

You can place whatever you want in this system. I'm thinking that since they mention "declining CP" you still want something with a higher CP but we won't know exactly how all of that works until we see it I guess.
There will be no more "big 7" it will be the "big whatever the hell you feel like throwing in there"
Lets assume, this tyranitar does not hit harder than a normal tyranitar, but is just like a series of 10 2500er Tyranitars. You would need a team of 6 Vaps to finish this thing.
It would be possible to do finish this mon with a team of 2 (There will be a 5-Minute-limit, so soloing it is not reasonable)
From the photo on the Live page, it appears that the berries you need to feed your gym defenders are Raspberries. I usually only cary a few of those, so this will definitely cause me to reevaluate.
The post leaves a lot of unaswered questions.
How many times do you have to defeat the gym in order to take it over? One run, all the way through may not lower the motivation enough to win.
I don't see anything in the picture to identify the order of the fight? Which order are the mon? Also, it says you battle them in the order the were entered. FIFO? Or LIFO?
Can anyone from the correct team feed berries to any of the mon in the gym? Or does each person have to feed their own?
What happens to a gym after a raid? Since all the defenders are kicked out for the raid to happen, is there a melee to fill the gym at the end of the raid? Without the ability to prestige the gym, if one mon gets knocked out, say due to being ignored and not fed, does the gym stay at 5? There's no way to prestige it back to 6?
Lots of stuff we need to wait and see on!
I disagree with that. There are plaenty of players who really don't care about the gyms at all. They are more interested in filling the Dex. In other words, Catch Them All.
The game has to stay viable for everyone, not just those who fight in gyms. I only have 6 gyms that I can hit on a normal day, Any others are an extended drive. So I need the added incentive of variation in my catches.
