Given Murkrow's very low capture rate, I was wondering how everyone on here approaches catching them. I know they have an evolution in gen4 to Honchkrow and other than being a relatively weak dark attacker, how does everyone justify using whatever resource they use to catch them? Razzberry Great/ultra seems to be the most efficient way to catch them but not sure they are worth the resource. Thoughts?!?

If it is above about 700 I usually just run.

Throw regular balls at them and not care if they flee. Just getting them for stockpile way down the road and the dark medal

For me, the CP is the main deciding factor. If their CP is high (1000+), I'll make a decent attempt (without going crazy) and hope their IVs are good. Otherwise, I'll normally only bother with the low CP ones for candy acquisition.

Agreed - 1000+ where they're 'okay' as prestigers I'll use a great ball & raspberry, or if they're sub 200 I'll use a standard ball. Anything in between I don't bother - too little reward.

Now that I've got the +2 bonus seems a bit easier - for me it's definitely worth it because I'm still another 100 away from the gold medal, the high-CP double-dark ones are decent throw-away prestigers against Espeon (might take 2 of them but so what?), and I'd like to have a few high-IV, high-level ones and lots of candy available for down the road... Agree that razz+great/ultra ball usually needed, also a curve ball seems to help more then a "Great!" throw bonus.

If it's 1000+ CP I'll throw excellent ultra with razz Berry. Otherwise great ball. I need the medal.

In the beginning my motivation to catch them was to get a good IV one to evolve when we get the 4th Gen. Now I have two good IV and CP Murkrow's (1074 CP 84iv and 1039 CP 84iv) but I still catch them because of the Dark Gold medal, I am at 88/200 so it will still take some time...and razz berrys...and great balls ?

I hate them. They seem to be 700+ very often and always break out (even when using Razzberry+Ultra ball sometimes). I get my Dark medal in 3 catches and then I will ignore this stupid bird (although I like his evolution, but 654 candy are enough).

I only need to catch a few more to get to 1000 murkrow candy. Once I get 1000+ candy I'll mostly ignore these pests.

I throw a couple of lazy balls at ones that are below 500, and if they break out I leave them alone.

One thing I've started doing is make only one throw. If it is near 1000 CP just Razz and one Great Ball. If this fails, you have lost the first throw bonus anyway, just leave it. Especially during this event at some point it is a waste of time throwing balls at them. You are better served capturing something else (assuming there is something else to capture).

Well, since I am low on stardust all the time, I just throw simple pokeballs at them, until I catch them. Have 1000+ candy already and still try to catch every mon I see. It is not worth to spend any precious ressources on it though imo.

I have about 400 murkorw candies now and saving 2 good iv ones for whenever gen4 comes out. Reason why is to complete the dark medal and sure enough I did with catching just murkows and a few houndours too.

I have one that is a high CP and I only catch the low CP mons. I have over 50 candies so I hope it doesnt take more to evole. I am ready for 2019 or whenever we fet to that point.

I have 500 candy and the dark medal already, so I don't bother.
They use too many resources that will give me more xp and more candy if I use them on something else.

If I want to dump pokeballs all over the floor, I can do that without needing to wait for a Murkrow to do it.

I managed to get my gold Dark badge a while back, so I don't catch them at all any more. Before I completed the badge, I caught every single one I could find, even if it meant using Razz+Ultra, which I did any time I saw a CP 700+ Murkrow (around 400+ I used Razz+Great). It definitely depleted my Great/Ultra ball resources, but I never completely depleted them. In the mean time, I trashed any Murkrow that was below the 82% IV appraisal, and kept the rest. The end result is that I now have 10+ Murkrow with 82%+ IV, and over 700 candy. I can now safely avoid them, because I know I will have enough to get a Honchcrow in the future, and hopefully I have enough Murkrow+candy to get one with a decent moveset and power it up.

Haha thanks for all the feedback. I'm at 220 caught out of 407 for murkrow... which is a combo of trying manually as well as casual go plus catches (almost never caught with this method)
