Moveset reroll

Would Niantic ever create an item that they sell in their shop to reroll a moveset? And if so how much coins would you spent on such an item?

I'm torn. I want this but on the other hand, I do not. It would be unfair for those who spent eons farming for candies just to get the perfect moveset for their trophy Pokémon but it would also help out thos who farmed a lot of candies who evolved their trophies and got the worst possible moveset. I dunno. Probably I would not want this in game. Don't get me wrong. I have a lot of Pokémon lined up if ever this is implemented but meh. Takes the fun away, I guess. You evolve one, then reroll if you don't like the moveset. Buy coins if you have the money or actually hunt gyms for the fund. What's the point of catching another Snorlax if you can reroll your 100IV and possibly get another chance of winning the RNG lottery?

Edit:

TMs would be nice though.

Unfair? You do know this game requires players to spend money to keep updating. Also not everyone has the luxury of farming candy for certain Pokemon. I only have one Gyarados and that is because of the water event, and one Venusaur because of the grass event...

I live in a desert. Everywhere around me is desert. We can't just easily farm nice movesets for most Pokemon.

What takes the fun away is if you get excited about finally gettinf Vileplume and it gets Acid/Moonbeam...

I would rather have TMs though added to the game.

Requires? Big NO. I have maxed out storage for both bag and Pokémons and purchased the best available clothes for my avatar and I haven't spent a single dime in this game so that argument is already invalid. I feel sorry for you though but what I have right now is the result of driving 45 minutes to the nearest town every single night day to battle gyms and hunt Pokémon. Spending real money will help but it's not required.

That wont pay developers salaries, so real money is necessary long term. Kind of sad if you rather spend dough on gas than in game.

I'm nearly reaching level 38 and I don't really see the need to spend money so the argument "necessary" is already trash. I need to go pick up my wife every night anyway so that isn't really a point you can use.

If its a new random chance 199 pokecoins. (you could even end up with the same moveset)

If its a pick. 999 pokecoins (5 times more to avoid 1/6 chance)

I doubt they will ever do this though, as it makes "finishing" the game more likely as it reduces the need to keep getting more pokemon to get what you want.

I would expect they are more likely to Add TMs some way, with small random chances. Because that would add another "Chase" element to the game. Not only would people keep going to get TMs but a TM would only teach 1 move. So odds of getting that perfect TM you want, would be like odds of getting a Perfect Pokemon.

A counter argument to having move rerolls is I'd guess some people actually quit the game after getting crap moves.

They see it as a constant nonstop farming of candies and keep getting crap stuff and rage quit.

Like the person here who evolved 20 Machops to Machamp and no Dynamic Punch, most people would just forget about it. I haven't evolved another Machop yet in case there is a way to change moves (last one I evolved was a BP/DP) even though I have the candies again.

They really need more content overall I think...

I doubt the gym rework will solve much since some people don't do gyms at all and you have to travel (drive) normally and trying to maintain gyms is sorta like work.

They should make it where everyone, I feel can benefit from gyms since it's all or none now and you don't need that many since gyms are so easy to take down (just time consuming).

I think breeding, having a Pokemon "house" or things like that where you can grow berries, upgrade your house, buy stuff to decorate it, play the game at home, craft stuff, more mini games, etc...will make people more engaged/playing.

My kids already don't care to play again so I'd guess this is happening to other people also.

I'm honestly not looking forward to the gym rework or PvP...

I probably need new goals in the game.

If they create a reroll item, it should be a rare item drop in the evolution item pool. It should be a random chance at the currently available movesets, excluding the exact moveset that the pokemon has so at least one move changes.

I agree with pipjay on how the reroll item should be implemented. Definitely shouldn't be an item you can buy from the shop, or it'll cause imbalance.

It definitely should not be a shop item. I would prefer it not be a drop item either. It should be a quest item earned through battle, or some other goal that takes some effort but is not random. (Maybe 100 battles won with a Mon, for example, gets you a TM for one of their moves.)

Was there any item or process from the actual show that pokemon used to learn new moves? Like a "knowledge stone" or something like that. And make it a super ultra rare drop item.

In the main series games, there are many ways to learn new moves:
- Pokemon can learn new moves when they level up to certain levels
- You can use items called TMs (Technical Machine) and HMs (Hidden Machine, I think?) to teach a specific move to various compatible pokemon
- Some NPCs referred to as move tutors can teach some moves in a process similar to TMs. These are often moves that were available as TMs in a previous generation that have been changed now but are still useful moves. It has been a while, but IIRC move tutors can also reteach a pokemon any move from that pokemon's level up learnset.
- Finally there is breeding as a long and complicated process of getting pokemon with certain moves that they couldn't otherwise learn in other ways.

In the TV show, pokemon learned new moves whenever it was convenient as a plot device.

I don't think it should necessarily be limited by cost... aka people who are willing to spend more can have access to as many re rolls as they wish and have a perfect set of pokemon without any effort other than clicking something in the store a bunch.

This would quite literally be in the 'pay to win' realm.

Instead I think a TM system that relies on rare drops would be better, it would really put a minimum time limit on how many rolls you can do and how fast get the move-sets you want on several different pokemon

Also assuming it would be random, you may wait a while for a tm drop, and then roll a move to something that you didnt want...meaning you would have to try again.

Now as long as its not stupidly rare drop rate, combined with the chance or it being a waste/not what you want, it shouldn't be too annoying if you get a bad spell of luck.

I also think you should have to pick one of the two move types only, either quick or charge. Meaning you wont be able to change the other move now, and you actually are able to make some tactical choices based on what moves the pokemon currently has

(for example a Dragonite has a certain quick move thats good for defense, but a charge move that doesn't really fit with that...so you focus on rolling its charge move to the best defensive option)

I also think that if one of these was created, that it should be a rare drop. Otherwise, people would be even more upset when Niantic changed what movesets were best, and it might be a big money maker for them.

I don't see how being able to change moves will make people more upset...

I mean...in terms of being upset..I would say waiting months to finally evolve a Dragonite...then getting a moveset you are not happy with, overall really removing the fun and excitement from the evolve you waited so long for, as you are not truly happy with the result, this is a much bigger..if not the only, source of disappointment in this game right now IMO.

Sure it will be annoying if you grind for a certain move on a pokemon with TMs...then after getting it, eventually the move gets nerfed.

But its always going to be like that...things change and we adapt. The fact that we may be able to roll moves is what will allow us to adapt...instead of having the mindset of 'right...well now I need to start fresh and get a totally new pokemon to adapt' which is very limited by RNG and the fact you may not even get the new better move for god knows how many evolves.

so anyway...overall what are you saying ?...TMs will only work if Niantic promise to never change anything ever again and let the game run dry and boring ?

The game needs change and balancing every once in a while

I think he meant specifically upset if they have to pay money and others can just "pay to win" the best moveset.

Up

oh yeah...if they did make it cost real money/coins then sure...im fully against the idea of them making it cost, as i mentioned in my other comment.

It would literally be pay to win if they did this...and they would atleast need to put a cap on how many you can buy within a week or something to limit it.

What I meant is if people pay real money to buy coins to reroll their movesets, and then Niantic changes moves so that they moveset that used to be best is now garbage (like they have done in the past), then people that have paid real money will feel like they threw away their money and be even more upset about the movesets being changed then they would have been otherwise. Also, Niantic may be even more likely to want to do this, since changing moves might mean a bunch of people would be buying moveset rerolls.

I would spend 150 same as incubator because for example I am only ever going to be able to get one dragonite and he might get SW/HB so yah I would spend 150.

Ok so hatching 3 eggs=same value as a reroll lmao

I don't like the "rare" drops idea because this hurts rural players tons more. (I'm not rural).

Another option is you need to learn the move from someone on your team...

Someone puts a Machamp in a gym with Counter/Dynamic Punch...

You need to prestige or train against it with your own Machamp (sorta like sparring) and after so many battles (can set to be fair) where you successfully prestige, you can get the TM, etc...

This may have a social aspect too so someone with some DT/O Dragonite can put it in a gym and say people can train against it, etc...or you can "search" for mons in gyms with this type, etc...

Less RNG is better when the crap move was already bad luck RNG...

Weekly objective: transfer 100 mons of a type for a TM of the same type
