If you're dead set on investing in a Gengar, which is totally cool because Gengar is a sweet pokemon, I would prefer the Sucker Punch one. The Shadow Claw variants (legacy) are the best in terms of DPS, but Sucker Punch / Shadow Ball is about 91% of the damage of SC/Shadow Ball.

Pretty good mon you got there.

EDIT: you can check out the comparative DPS of Gengar movesets at this page :::::

Try it out. I don't like hex. I like sucker punch very much...people say hex is better...It is also fair to point out that hex is NVE against normal pokemon like Snorlax and Blissey, while sucker punch hits for neutral damage.

They both hit for neutral damage, the NVE is compensated by stab, which sucker punch doesn't gain.

I hate it when people say that. Just because a move gets STAB, doesn't mean it is the better move. Just as an example, if a move does 5 damage, but gets STAB, it still isn't as good as a move that does 20 damage. In the case of hex vs sucker punch, using this very website, they tell us that SP does 14.29 DPS, while hex does 14.17. This means...

hex against Snorlax/Blissey does 11.33 DPS.

Sucker punch against Snorlax/Blissey does 14.29 DPS

Someone can give me a thumbs down, but they can't show where I am wrong...because I'm not. That is what makes this site so great, it shows the "true DPS," which accounts for STAB.
