Move calculations (Gyarados), confirmation/help needed
Hi,
I just stumbled upon this website and it looks pretty nice. I read about how optimal movesets are calculated and I would like confirmation if my calculations are succesful. I assume no delay for attacking, and a 2 second delay on basic attacks for defending (although not for special moves, is it indeed correct that only basic attacks suffer from this delay).
DEFENDING:
Bite (basic attack)
2.5 sec for 7 energy, 6 damage
250 sec for 700 energy, 600 damage
Hydro Pump (special attack):
3.8 sec costs 100 energy, 112.5 damage (STAB)
can use 7 times with 700 energy, total of 26.6 seconds for 787.5 damage
Total: 276.6 seconds for 1387.5 damage = 5.016 DPS
Dragon Pulse (special attack):
3.6 sec costs 50 energy, 65 damage (NOSTABAVAILABLE)
can use 14 times with 700 energy, total of 50.4 seconds for 910 damage
Total: 300.4 seconds for 1510 damage = 5.026 DPS
DRAGON PULSE IS SLIGHTLY BETTER
ATTACKING:
0.5 sec for 7 energy, 6 damage
50 sec for 700 energy, 600 damage
Hydro Pump (special attack):
3.8 sec costs 100 energy, 112.5 damage (STAB)
can use 7 times with 700 energy, total of 26.6 seconds for 787.5 damage
Total: 76.6 seconds for 1387.5 damage = 18.114 DPS
Dragon Pulse (special attack):
3.6 sec costs 50 energy, 65 damage (NOSTABAVAILABLE)
can use 14 times with 700 energy, total of 50.4 seconds for 910 damage
Total: 100.4 seconds for 1510 damage = 15.1 DPS
HYDRO PUMP IS BETTER THAN DRAGON PULSE WHEN ATTACKING
I think this difference lies in basic attacks being 'costly' for defenders, as the 2 sec delay significantly lowers their DPS. Therefore, the fact that you can use twice as many Dragon Pulses as Hydro Pumps as much more valuable on defending than it is on attacking (where Hydro Pump is the better move).
Is this all correct?
Another question I wanted to ask: On Gyarados' page I find Hydro Pump DPS (with STAB) to be 29.61, whereas its 'true DPS' is 28.42. How is this explained? For Dragon Pulse, true DPS is also lower than DPS but for Twister the true DPS is equal to DPS.
Thanks in advance!
