gardevoir is only good for machamp (and there are a lot of options for that) unless she gets fairy fast move which is not happening soon, hariyama is just budget machamp. If we're talking abour nonlegendary gen3, only Sceptile makes a difference, too bad he is not even mentioned and even got 3.5 rating. Probably salamance won't be much interest either since rayquaza will be around and many people has outrage dragonite, metagross has lackluster moveset but still will be good somehow.
Gardevoir is a good potient efficient option to Blissey's worst movesets, and Shadow Ball variants may even see use against Focus Blast sets of Mewtwo, Alakazam, and Gengar.
It also makes a great defender when paired with mons like Blissey that are weak to fighting due to its typing and great defensive movesets (Confusion, Dazzling Gleam, and Shadow Ball are all really moves good on defense)
Almost anything is equally useful these days. If Aggron came out a year earlier it would be a better gym defender, because it was hard to get good fighting and ground type attackers. You get everything presented to you at the right weather, level 30 wonders. Or just grab a legendary at a raid. If not, use rare candy. New Pokémon are presented in small doses so that everyone gets them in 3-6 weeks and fully evolved and powered up, unlike last year where it could take months until they started themed events.
I don't know what Niantic has in mind but the game seems to be:
- Who gets the most legendary raid bosses.
- Who gets the new evolved forms first in a gym
- Who can solo/duo the most difficult raids
- Who can find the very few rare Pokémon
Only the last two are actually a challenge, but once you can, there is no further plan :)
I still find the game amusing to play, but there is no particular plan with the collection. I hope for something new that stimulates intelligent, diverse use of Pokémon in battles.
On your last point, stop waiting for someone else to hand you a challenge, you are only limited by your own imagination so that's pretty much on you.
There are a myriad of combinations now that are possible in the game between weather boost, readily available high level "prestigers" requiring NO investment, and T2&T3 bosses with a wide range of difficulty. Get creative; have you soloed Zam using only bugs? Have you done any T3 boss using only one of each type? Tried any solo using the least viable counters?
No and I don't see why anybody would want to. It's smarter to just save the resources for something more important and long-lasting than a self-produced expensive challenge within the game.
I can tell you people are gone be butthurt when Niantic introduces player be player battles and everyone's kicking themselves for wasting resources on T3 raids.
