Nothing new here.

I had 5 Pidgey's or Pidgeotto's show up while I'm at work in the first 2 hours! That doesn't usually happen on Tuesdays - it's more of a Thursday thing, or sometimes a Wednesday. Occasionally it happens on a Monday, and when I've got a LOT of work to do, it happens on Fridays (when I can't get to my phone to catch them, grr!).

But Tuesdays? Tuesdays are more often Natu's and Rattata's, so I'm guessing that this is part of the "More Pokémon appearing globally".

It says more, not new...

Yes, there are more. I know this because there is a spawn point within reach of my home which is only turned on during the events. I noticed it was turned on right after the announcement of reaching 500 million catches.

13 magikarp in about 90 minutes sitting in one spot. That is a bit above average.
