Moltres Supreme counter to Articuno?

Why?
Flareon resists ice whereas Moltres takes neutral damage.

Theoretically, it's because Moltres has more bulk and has a (somewhat) higher attack stat. But in real-world application, it doesn't last long in that fight at all. Disappointingly so.

Seeing as Flareon resists ice, that effectively gives it a 1.4x increase in stamina, equivalent to 182 stamina without the extra energy gain, but Flareon has higher defence so it's actually more bulky than a Moltres.

Flareon has lower attack stat, which means extra power ups, but the break point for Fire Spin (assuming 15 attack IV) is only 30.5 for Moltres and 33 for Flareon, which is 29k dust and 28 candies, which isn't that much of an extra cost in my opinion, compared to getting 70 Moltres candies to get it from level 20 to 30.5

It always seemed to me that Flareon is wimpier than Moltres even with the ice resist, but both are pretty disappointing counters if you're in a small group.

Stone Edge Tyranitar still takes the cake for a good 'general' attacker than doesn't get wrecked by IB or blizzard.

I suppose Flareon's extra bulk is only theoretical. In practice it is probably slightly less due to damage rounding.

I think the overall point is that Moltres isn't a supreme counter. Personally I'd rank any of the top 4 "good" counters over Moltres though that's without mathematical proof.

I've used Moltres to hugely varying results for this. With the non 2 bar dodgable moves Moltres is a beast. For the harder to dodge moves he doesn't do well at all.

I don't get it either. Pokebattler ranks FS/oh flareon ahead of FS/OH moltres, that looks correct to me.
