Do you NEED a Mewtwo right now?
Despite it's stats, it's a pretty useless mon in general. You asked, I'd advice against powering it up unless you think you really need one in your team. Mine aren't as bad as yours but I've resisted the itch to power any of them up because I wouldn't get any use out of it. Perhaps when the Latwins descend from the heavens
Mewtwo power-up limit
You guessed it; yet another twonk asking about whether to hurl candy at his spanking new legendary.
So; What's a reasonable minumum set of stats for powering up Mewtwo?
My first one has a wonderful 11 11 10 (a d s), 71%.
It'll likely be a fair while before I get another invite, but I will get it sooner or later; I do visit eligible gyms every now and then.

I disagree with the above statements. The only minimum stat I would provide is 15 Attack, but it really depends on how often your area EX-Raids.
- Current best Psychic (And near best Ghost) specialist in game
- Best generalist, similar to Rayquaza
- Focus Blast is best answer to Blissey
And I really wouldn't power it up without maxing it. If you power it up to level 30 you may as well just evolve a weather-boosted Alakazam for similar results at less of a cost.
I maxed mine - definitely no regrets even at 84% IV.

In my opinion, all of this is invalidated by Mewtwo's low defense. Even if it has a whooping base stat of 300 ATK, Mewtwo faints way too fast for it to even put in any sort of significant damage. Whatever Mewtwo can currently do, other Pokémon (like Dragonite or Machamp) can do just as good (or better). If Mewtwo had more bulk and better charge moves, then I'd definitely agree with you. Sadly, the nerf on Mewtwo made it too fragile to even be useful.
Haven’t run the Numbers but i’m guessing that a 70% IV should have a more than enough DPS-rate, outperforming the usual suspects. Don’t get stuck on IVs. Today I got a 93%; 14/15/13 and ran it against my other mewtwo (87%) and got more or less a identical DPS-rate.
Im guessing a 70% should perform pretty much Almost the same as a 82%.
Well, I was struggling with soloing Machamp, could only beat Close Combat, and with less than 10 seconds to spare. Then I got a Mewtwo (85%), and added him to my Machamp team (Con/SB).
Soloed Machamp last week, Close Combat, beat it with 28 seconds to spare, and didn't get to my 5th or 6th pokemon.
So my experience was pretty good, and would have been better if I had Con\Psychic. Hard to argue that it's useless - I now like my chances against Dynamic Punch a lot more.
10/10/10 is only marginally weaker than 15/15/15 in raids and gym battles, and the Mewtwo is the most precious resource you have - they are hard to get. You can grind more dust and rare candies, but you need to get the EX pass to get a Mewtwo.
Like any meta relevant pokemon, he will shine in a few situations; like a good generalist, he will do pretty well in most. Don't use him against things that resist psychic, or his charged attack, and he'll be useful.
