Mewtwo Dillema

Hey guys! Mewtwo move-set question.

I used plenty of TMs to get my Mewtwo the coveted Confusion/SB, but now I'm reconsidering... Ghost type is SE against Ghost and Psychic - exactly like Dark type. So Mewtwo ends up as a functionally mildly stronger Tyranitar? With Focus Blast it's roughly like Machamp... But, with Psychic, won't it far surpass any other pure Psychic type by a large margin? Will it beat Alakazam in DPS?

Question is: If I have several Tyranitars, Machamps, and Alakazams, where will Mewtwo improve my performance the most? Thanks for your input!

As a Generalist!
Against raid bosses that take 1x damage from C/SB.

Depends on your fighting style. I just caught my first Mewtwo today C/FB. I prefer movesets that allow me to dodge so C/FB is terrible for me. I'm leaning towards T'M ing to PC/P or PC/SB so he will actually be fun to use

Tyranitar, Machamp and Alakazam are not generalists that compete for the top spot of neutral DPS, C/SB Mewtwo is. It's also tanky enough to take raid boss charge moves like Blizzard from Kyogre or Outrage from Rayquaza.

Basically if you have a Mewtwo and max it out with C/SB, it can supplement pretty much any raid team you will ever make if the boss doesn't resist SB (if they resist psychic you need to FTM to PC for Mewtwo to be good). It's a good way to save resources in the long run, because you probably won't have enough to have maxed teams of optimal counters for every raid boss ever. At least that's how I'm using mine, it's already gotten a lot of work done against Kyogre and the only reason I don't use it against Rayquaza is that I'm drowning in viable ice types.

Another use for SB Mewtwo - Latios and Latias. I'm more psyched about Latios than Rayquaza (CP 1 point lower, and much better defense with only a little lower attack.) SB Mewtwo is one of the best counters for Latios, along with the dragons. For double psychic Latios, Ttar and Mewtwo are the best, for double dragon, Ttar and Mewtwo are 2nd and 3rd best.

Again, sure, it's acting like a Ttar. But it's more fun and cooler.

Me, personally, I'd TM Hyper Beam, and take what I got, otherwise leave it alone. Confusion vs. Psycho Cut is a personal choice; want to dodge, or want to pound the opponent into submission with confusion?

And has much better DPS. Mewtwo is seriously busted in its good matchups.

I just feel like we live in a world of specialists. I have several maxed Dragonites that are more than decent generalists but I barely use them. Do you guys feel differently?

Question to spark more debate: will SB Mewtwo outperform Tyranitar as a Latios counter? If he doesn't excel in this situation will there ever be a situation at which he is the optimal choice?

Maybe only Celebi?

Interested in more opinions.

"will SB Mewtwo outperform Tyranitar as a Latios counter?"
For DPS yes, for TDO no (pokebattler). So if you want to maximize chances for more balls, Mewtwo, if you want potion efficiency, TTar. For me personally, Mewtwo is the clear winner out of the two.

Celebi's supreme counters are actually Scizor and Pinsir, as it takes double SE from bug.

The elimination of Alakazam and Gengar as raid bosses reduces the usefulness of C/SB Mewtwo (I have one, BTW). People talk about it as a great generalist, but SB is double resisted by normal types, i.e. Blissey and Snorlax. In raids it can fill in adequately just about anywhere (except against T-tar), but only if you don't have a team of real counters.

Psychic isn't that bad when backed by Mewtwo's attack stat, so using C/P as a pure psychic attacker seems like a viable option, especially if you don't have a double psychic Lugia.

The only real generalist charge move for Mewtwo is HB.

i've managed to catch two and i'm running pc/fb on one and c/sb on other - that was my first and frankly it's useless for gyms as they are stuffed with normal types and psychic and dark are very rare on defence.

really depends on what you have and what you need it for - if you gym a lot and need a generalist then sb is useless, and it's very unusual you can't pick a 'mon that is a better counter to any raid boss. i really don't like fb's cast time but it's undeniably effective against all the blisseys, chanceys and snorlaxes in gyms wheras i haven't really got much use out of the c/sb one that is better on paper
