Metagross has become another Tyranitar: Unique typing, bulky, but with bad movepools. Metagross has slightly higher attack that Ttar, but even worse moves.
Psychic and Flash Cannon are even worse (same damage but longer duration) than Stone Edge, which is already a bad move. Earthquake is slightly better than those two (but not a good move either), but lacks STAB.

Because of this, Metagross also can't be the defensive monster it should be, because of only having 1-bar charge moves.

Gotta do best with what we get and hopefully he’ll get access to better moves in the future or a move rebalance(like turning psychic back to a 2 bar move)
It does not diminish my hype for Metagross he is one of my favourites.

I'd rather it have Metal Claw instead of Bullet Punch too. Metang has it so I have no idea why they made it that way.

Same reason Haunter still learns Shadow Claw but Gengar doesn’t anymore, to nerf it

Well Gengar had SC at one point, but back then it wasn't even that good, it was kinda like the current Hex if I remember correctly, kinda slow.

For some reason Niantic thinks bad movesets need to exist.

Because Niantic has demonstrated very little imagination with its move allocations. It's always Fire Spin. Or Overheat. Or Zen Headbutt. Or Charge Beam. Or Dragon Tail, which is all over the Gen3 heavy hitters: Rayquaza, Kyogre, Groudon, Salamence, Flygon, Aggron, Milotic. Really? C'mon.

Boring.

It's not like they don't have other moves already implemented to work with.

Sheesh, did you know Aqua Jet is in the game and some Pokemon can learn it? I sure didn't.

Why do we still talk about Pokemon and Defending?

Edit: You mentioned "high turn over gyms" in another thread. I ask you this. What defender currently gives you issues?

Blissey, of course! Chansey and Snorlax, to a lesser extent. Metagross would be tough too because of steel typing, but only having access to 1-bar moves makes it less of a threat.

75% of defender Blisseys here have ZH/DG. And I only have 1 powered up Machamp.

And, potion shortage.

Not to be rude, but you aren't trying. I haven't played since Zapdos was a raid boss and I know your account name very well. At this point if you don't have a few level 30 plus Machamps, you are clearly putting your resources towards other things, which is a mistake on your part if you still struggle with Blissey.

The reason is simple: I don't like powering up multiples of the same Pokemon with the same moveset.

But I don't care, my 2 Ttars B/SE and B/Cr handle most Blisseys well enough.

Exactly. There isn't a tough defender. Defending isn't a thing. The best defense is a golden razz berry

Actually there’s a work around . I can time you out on feeding Blissey because I can take it down fast and force you to meet the max amount of berries fed to one Pokémon in a timeframe. It’s a little time consuming but I’ll take your Blissey out.

Unfortunately 80% of players in my area are multi-accounters.
Also, they inform their teammates immediately when the gym is under attack.
I've fought against a 6-account multi-accounter for close to 2 hours, with 6 teammates also attacking. For the gym badge XP.

It's devilishly hard if your phone is even a bit too slow. You have to going absolute maximum speed for 25 minutes or so if the Blissey is maxed, constantly concentrating on not wasting any time at all or the timer will reset. It's exhausting in addition to being time consuming.

But the occasional 3.2k ZH/DG Blissey still gives me some trouble.

And yes! Golden razz berries!

What you golden razz berry makes a ton of difference. If it's a Gyarados/Dragonite/Tyranitar, they will take it down 20 times in 5 minutes and you just wasted 10 GRBs. If it's a maxed Blissey, they can't even kick it out through feeding without high level Machamps and using at least 20 minutes.

If your Pokémon Box when clicking on your name is up to date, then your Machamp is rather weak for your level.

A Level 32 player can easily take out my Level 39 Blisseys with the same moveset.

It's all about time. The slower the defender goes down, the more time its owner has of noticing and feeding. The slower the whole gym goes down, the higher chance that a member of that team not in the gym gets there and feeds until they can add their own pokemon in place of one you kicked already. The slower your own defender goes down, the more time team mates have of getting there and adding defenders.

The mechanics are a bit more complex than just "anyone can take down any defender duh".

In my opinion, Metagross has a few small strengths over Tyranitar, though, for the most part this post is accurate.

1. Safer dual-typing. Tyranitar is a wall against certain types, people like to forget that because it has a double-weakness. However, Metagross has 3 less weaknesses, and no double weakness, as well as a couple double resistances. Fire-types are the only Pokemon to be a real threat against them.

2. Dual-type capability. Metagross has some pretty awful moves, yes, but, unlike Tyranitars albeit somewhat viable Bite/Stone Edge situation, Metagross has quick move/charge move synergy for both of its types, even if they are poor move choices, as well as having STAB on both types for mixing defensive movesets. I haven't seen a whole lot of Pokemon that resist Steel and Psychic simultaneously, apart from silly Houndoom, and that isn't even to mention its 3rd charge move option.
