Max-out cost and lvl 30+ powering up?

Do you power up your favorite pokemons completely? (for lvl 30+ trainers)
I always stop as soon as it costs 6k stardust, that means right after the CP bonus gets divided by 2 (thats lvl 31 i think)
Even if it's a dragonite, well you already reach 3000cp with lvl 31 and you can easily be at the top of any gym (or at least top 3). why would you spend around 10k stardust for +25cp ? it's not worth it imo

Also, just for your information, i just wanted to point something out :
lets pretend you hatched a good IV pokemon, and you want to power him up to lvl 31 (like i do)
Whatever the pokemon, this is what it will cost :

This is another questions where it's down to your personal preference.

I typically max out one of my best Pokémon for each category, eg. my best Dragonite, my best Snorlax etc. and not really bother with the rest. I've powered up a few more Exeggutor, Slowbro and Wigglytuff before the update because they were awesome gym defenders and also candies for them are easy to get. Since the update I've powered up a few more Gyarados, again it's down to your personal preference, there are plenty more which I don't bother power up at all.

What else are you gonna spend dust and candy on? There's only so many types worth powering in the game. Why not? You already powered it, might as well finish.

look, yesterday, i had 40 dratini candies left, and i had the choice between keeping on powering up my 3075 dragonite to 32xx, or starting powering up my 1700 dragonite (98iv) to 2500.
Of course i prefer having a 3075 dragonite and a 2500 one, rather than one beast at 32xx and the other still 1700.

I would have done the same and continue to power them both. There's a lot of time to grind between levels.

I'm currently only lvl 32 but the pokemon I am keeping maxed include:

96% DB/DC Dragonite
96% Li/BS Snorlax
91% MS/Eq Rhydon
96% WG/HP Vaporeon
100% WA/FB Charizard
100% Bu/IP Poliwrath

Pokes I dropped after the update are:
93% ZH/Psy Exeggutor
91% FF/FB Arcanine

Poke I'd like to add would be Gyarados and Lapras

Eventually you will have to power them up cuz everybody else will. By this time next year a level 31 mon is gonna be small...

for defense, all that matters is CP, because it determines the placement in the gym. Since the CP adjustment, i can easily get +2200CP pokemon (rhydon, eeveelutions, gyarados, ...). Why should i power up my lvl 31 blastoise (1975) or my perfect iv lvl 31 wigglytuff (1648) ? Even my lvl 31 Nidoqueen (1990) is useless now

for attack, cp doesnt matter, i can beat your best 3300 dragonite with a 1300 dewgong or so. powering up just makes it a bit easier, but i dont think past 31 it's worth it

Meh, I just haven't seen a need to max anyone out yet. I was keeping a few maxed before the gym changes but now gyms change hands every 15 freakin minutes. Who cares if your mon has another 100 CP? You're just going to be reviving it by the time you get home. Plus, 5 of the ones I focused on (aka almost every single one) - Slowbro, Exeggutor, Arcanine, Wigglytuff and Poliwrath, got nerfed. After that happened, it kind of pissed me off so I stopped maxing anything out.

I've been doing the same thing with my defenders now - taking them up to 31 and stopping.

I'm leveling up a bunch of attackers instead - but stopping at level 29 or 30

You can always catch lvl 30 pokemon though and you might as well use your stardust on something

I got 13 mons maxed out at 34.5 because they are 96-100 IV perfect move set and I got a shitload of dust and candies. I've hoarded dust and candies since level 23 and set some hard ground rules on how to spend. I rather have a small army of killers than a bunch of mediocre fodders. When I spend dust it's to the max or nothing.

Just a friendly reminder that actual combat power is CP^3, so even a small gain has a notable effect. I power up all my main attackers to the max if candy allows it.

I just keep powering up some Pokémon to reach a personal CP goal:

1) Dragonite, 91.1% IVs, DB/DP - 3219cp;
2) Snorlax, 93.3% IVs, ZH/BS - 3027cp;
3) Lapras, 82.2% IVs, IS/Blizz - 2596cp;
4) Gyarados, 86.7% IVs, B/HP - 2910cp;
5) Dragonite, 77.8% IVs, SW/DC - 3171cp.

My goal for these mon was/are:

  • 91.1% Dragonite - 3200+ (Done);
  • 93.3% Snorlax - 3000+ (Done, but i will keep powering him, its my best defender);
  • 82.2% Lapras - 2600+ (Almost done, walking for the last power - maybe i will still powering up this beast);
  • 86.7% Gyarados - 2900+ (Done, no more power ups);
  • 77.8% Dragonite - 3150+ (Done, no more power ups).

Do not level it beyond level 30, its not worthy. The only pokemons i have leveled to max are the ones of 100% iv with perfect moveset. For example, i leveled my 100% iv dragonite with dragon breath and dragon claws to level 39.5. The reason is, going beyond level 30 you will get a stats cut 50%, and its takes about 150k stardust to level from 30-38. Therefore I suggest you to save all your stardust if you can. Because when you are level 38, you can at most have 10-12 fully maxed out pokemon using all your stardust saved up from level 1 (around 2.8 million stardust). Btw, to level a pokemon from 10-39 cost around 300k stardust). So use ur stardust wisely.

People dont realize that stardust >>>> candies. That is when you reached a high level. DONT WASTE UR STARDUST.
