March research breakthrough attenders

Hallo trainers,

I'm very curious about which (legendary..) pokemon will attend in the march research breakthrough and i bet a lot of you too!

So which pokemon do you think will be potential for the march research breakthrough?

I would love to read the suggestions/speculations below.

Regards,

Mo

The Latis.

Rationale: The last three months featured the Gen 1 birds and Ho-Oh/Lugia. Before that, we had the Gen 2 dogs and Shedinja. The only Gen 1/2 legendary (not mythical) left is Mewtwo, so Niantic will probably move to Gen 3. Kyogre and Groudon were in raids last month. Rayquaza is likely to return to raids soon because it will sell raid passes. This leaves the Latis and the Regis; guess which were released to raids earlier?

Dont know if this changes anything, but latias was announced as a raid weekend

I could live with that. Need candy for Latios, and only have a single Latias.

However, my thoughts are that they will do something non-legendary (like when they did Snorlax with Body Slam), or possibly pseudo-legendary, specifically for PvP. How about Dragonite with Dragon Breath and Dragon Claw? Or maybe a CD pokemon with it's special move, maybe chosen randomly from all of them. Or something similar. That's what my gut is telling me.

More interesting is how this will connect to the next raid boss. They managed to synch the end of Palkia's run to the end of the month. Who's next? Dialga? Giratina Origin Forme? Regigigas? The lake Trio (which I hope they do in one month with all three forms available at once, which would alleviate the boredom that three months of middling psychic legendaries would produce)? That may play into the what the research is.

Edit: Just got the announcement that this weekend, Latias will be available in raids. Friday to Monday, shiny form available. So probably not Latias as the research breakthrough next month. Probably Latios as a short term raid addition at the end of the March raid boss cycle, again with shiny.

All right, final prediction for next raid boss. Lake trio, all three at once, with many weekends having a new dragon raid addition. Latios, Rayquaza, Giratina, etc.

My guess, probably the regi's, or maybe mewtwo. We just got Groudon and kyogre recently in raids, so I dont think they are going to research, latias is getting a raid weekend soon (https://pokemongolive.com/en/post/weekendraid2019-latias/) and it implies latios will be coming soon, rayquaza seems like a likely next shiny release soon for selling a lot of raid passes, so I dont think they will put it at a breakthrough

Could be legacy set pokemon like dragonite, but thats wishful thinking on my part.

I believe that it is going to be Smeargle. It was also featured at the new loading screen.

But, Smeargle is available once a day to catch via the camera. Why would they make that field research?

I agree that Smeargle is a solid contender. We've seen before that the breakthroughs can be non-legendaries (Snorlax, Shedinja), and Niantic don't tend to tease something new so directly unless it's very close.

Honestly? I see them pulling big arch over the next few months. It seems they're making pairs out of the legendaries.

March- Dialga
Field Research- Smeargle (all that teasing)
Special- Latios

This being similar to the Palkia/Latias/Pink/Red theme going on. Latios/Dialga are blue.

Then I can see them pairing each of the Lake Trio in normal raids with a special raid week for the three Regis.

Following that would probably be Regigigas with Rayquaza as the special raid week, and each of the Regis finally available for field research. Similar to how Regigigas needs the three golems to be activated, Rayquaza finishes a "trio" with Kyogre and Groudon. They might even bring back those two for field research that month.

After that, it's all a guess. My bet is on the Rotom forms finally making an appearance, and they'll pull off at least six months of raids that way. In the mean while, field research will catch us up on everything else that just happened, probably, if not new pokemon.

Heck, maybe we might get field research Riolu. Given Lucario's popularity and special move in Aura Sphere, there's no doubt they'll try to implement something in.
