Magneton / Ampharos / Raichu worth powering up?

Hi all,

We all know that the best electric attacker right now is Jolteon (TS/TB or TS/Thu).
But for more variety other than using Jolteon all the time, do you think it's worth powering up pokemons like Magneton (Spark/Zap Cannon or CB/ Zap Cannon) and Ampharos (CB/Zap Cannon) or even Raichu (Spark/Wild Charge) to level 30 to take down Gyarados?

Jolteon with TS/Thunder is not a good attacker (giving the Gyarados energy to use Hydro Pump, wasting potions/revives) now, the best is TS/Thunderbolt.

True, valid point there :)

TS/Disharge is not bad. I can attack to full meter then unleash all three discharges and KO a Gyarados.

This is a good advice...
But in our area where I always use Magnemite/Magneton and Voltorb/Electrode as my sacrificial lamb... Since they are the most pokes i can catch everyday... I never encounter I have difficulties dealing with Gyara.... or any water type pokes...

yeah they can take him down, in a full cycle of dps magnetons moves with zap cannon will deal like 93-94% of the total damage from a jolteon with thunder shock and bolt if you take that as 100%, and still the other variants from jolteon are higuer than magnetons, raichu with spark and wild charge would be like 90%, and ampharos like 85% with charge beam and zap cannon

Currently... Jolteon, Ampharos and Lanturn are the optimal electrics.

Ampharos has less attack power than Jolteon, but is more bulky, lasts more in battle and could inflict more damage in the long run.
Lanturn has less attack power than both, but is also way more bulky than both.

I would use Jolteon against a single Gyarados. Ampharos against multiple Gyarados in a row. Lanturn as a prestiger that can take up to 2 Gyarados in a row at half their CP.

Also note that Lanturn is part water, letting it resist Hydro Pump. This gives it a typing advantage over the other two in the Gyarados matchup.

can't speak for using those as gym attackers - i use a ts/tb jolteon and it destroys gyrados often before they can use a charge attack. i would however say raichus are very good prestigers if you have one around 1500 mark with spark - i can beat 3k gyrados if you dodge the charge move - i would be interested in hearing peoples experiences with magnetons for prestige though as they seem to have good resists vs. gyrados (found them too squishy myself).

try a lanturn for prestige though, very good hp, easy to get a cp1500ish one and they resist/kill vaperons very well and gyrados' decently
