Last week I failed on a C/DP Machamp solo. Luckily another group came to raid the Machamp so I didn't waste my raid pass.

This was my team, in this order. IVs are A/D/S:
1: Alakazam CP 2474 IV100 L30 PC/FS
2: Espeon CP 2527 IV86 15/12/12 L30 ZH/FS
3: Espeon CP 2447 IV62 09/05/14 L30 C/FS
4: Espeon CP 2310 IV51 07/13/14 L29 C/Pb
5: Gengar CP 2222 IV82 12/11/14 L31 SC/ShB
6: Dragonite CP 3050 IV82 12/12/13 L31 DB/Hur

These are my other mons that I didn't use, but might be helpful:
1: Exeggutor CP 2623 IV86 14/15/10 L34 C/SoB
2: Lugia CP 2017 IV80 14/10/12 L20 Es/FS (needs to be powered up first)
3: Alakazam CP 2416 IV84 13/13/12 L30 PC/ShB

Strangely, the problem was timing out, rather than survival.

Besides powering the 100% Alakazam to the L34 breakpoint, what other ways can I improve my team?

Should I power up the 80% Lugia? He is my highest IV Lugia, and the only one that doesn't have Hydropump currently. All my other Alakazams and Espeon are too low level to be useful, worth the stardust. I don't currently have good Abras or high level Eevees to evolve.

Abras are rare in my area, but there's an Abra nest that I can grind candies or hunt for a good Abra at. Eevees are common, but I haven't found a L28+ Eevee in weeks. I caught a L27 Eevee this morning, would that do?

I have some fast TMs, but no charge TMs. Stardust isn't a problem, I can easily grind it any time with the current double stardust event. Rare candy for Lugia might be a problem though, I only have 50 currently.

PS: I won't fast TM my ZH/FS Espeon, even if ZH is worse. I'm holding on to ZH because of potential move changes in Gen 3.

Don't dodge too much boy.

For me that I failed Machamp raids, it was because those Confusions were too slow to dodge, and ZH in my opinion does not hit as hard as Confusion, thus bad for DPS. And my Espeons never get FS.

I couldn't find the problem with your team lol, I haven't soloed a Machamp yet. I really need one FS Espeon.

(Strangely, I mostly get FS on Alakazams.)

Kick out that Gengar, power up that Lugia. Quit dodging. Then you’re a winner for sure.

Power up a few past L30. That is what made the difference for me.

One obvious thing you can do is replace either your gengar or you dragon with the eggy. He has a higher dps than both. I would first put it in 5th place and then the gengar as your closer since it is better to have a 2 bar move for the last spot when your time is tight.

2nd obvious thing to do, put some more dust into a 100% PC/FS Alakazam...to start two more powerups is only 10k

Even resisting fighting moves Espeon and Zam are just so frail. I use more dragons than anything. While hurricane is better outrage is satisfactory. What's more is Dragonite resists its STAB moves and has the bulk to make a difference.

Future Sight might deal way more damage but realistically how many can you fire off. I'm lucky to get 2. No problem getting three hurricanes or five outrages per dragon with a dodge here and there.

Good luck!

Overall I would say your Team lacks in survivability.
Because you say time out is problem you must be dodging too much. Switch Gengar with Eggy and give him Psychic. Worked for me:
Alkazam 2483
Alkazam 2353
Espeon 2446
Eggy 2822 ES/Psy / SB should work too
Alkazam 2342 / Dragonite 3394
Dragonite 3530
(no problem)

Alkazam 2483
Alkazam 2353
Espeon 2446
Alkazam 2342
Dragonite 3530
Dragonite 3394 / Alkazam 2268

(didn't really work, maybe 1/5)

Should I power up the Lugia?

After Powered up high, Lugia is the only Pokemon that can fight with any Machamp movesets head to head, toe to toe!
Now I can click into the raid at the last min of the timer, and knowing I can beat it for sure!

Yes, first thing I'd do is power up all the level 30 mon to level 31. There's stardust/candy breakpoints too, and they fall on the odd numbers. Powering from 29 --> 30 costs the same as powering from 30 --> 31. Going up to 32 costs more (an extra 2 candy and 1000 dust). While you probably won't hit any breakpoints, every power up increases attack, defense and stamina, which allow you to stay in the fight a little longer on average, and deal a little more total damage.

Second, I'd definitely power up the Lugia. I don't even try C/DP Machamps because I don't have a Lugia. My team for Machamp:

Espeon Level 36 CP 2792 Cf/FS
Espeon Level 33 CP 2658 ZH/FS
Dragonite Level 33 CP 3215 DT/Hu
Exeggutor Level 36 CP 2716 Es/SolB

The last two slots are Enteis if the Machamp has Heavy Slam, and Scyther with double flying moves and Dragonite DT/O if it has Close Combat. The Scyther is actually a bit of a tank, not quite the DPS of the Espeons, but with double resistance to fight, hangs in there and takes a lot of damage despite a lower CP, and dishes out a fair amount of flying damage. I'd switch it to a Lugia in a heartbeat if I had one.

Also, I've found that Eggy with Psychic is nowhere near as effective as Eggy with Solar Beam. That base 180 power with STAB is just obscene (216), and Psychic with power 100, STAB, single weakness can't keep up (168), given that they are the same energy. But there are better tanks, like Lugia. Or get yourself a Mewtwo or Metagross, and it should be much easier (yes, I know the first is very difficult and the second impossible right now).

The Eggy I use isn't optimal, but the best I have now. Still working on that team, as I don't have a strong Machamp with DP, and intend to get one or two before they rotate Machamp out as a raid boss.

While the cost of powering from 30->31 is the same as 29->30, the benefit is smaller. This is a plot of the cp multiplier as function of level. Note that the slope is significantly reduced past level 30. So in your words, there is a benefit breakpoint at level 30.

Good luck with your next attempt! Sometimes the stars just have to be aligned just right (as they were finally for me).

BTW, how do you know what the raid bosses' fast move is? The charge move, if not obvious, is of course announced. Do you just have to know the animation? (Sorry if this is a really dumb question ;)
