I think the point is that the damage calculations changed to make super effective attacks even more effective, so a Machamp is now the go to against a Tyranitar, Snorlax, and Blissey, thus making it extremely useful, particularly for Raids.
That being said, I always used my eggs to take out Blisseys before the change. My Machamps are waiting to be powered up still.
