Machamp power up question

Would you bring a machamp above level 30 if it has C&DP? If so how high would his IV have to be for you to go above level30? And how high would you go?

If you have the dust and candy to spare, I'd go for it. I have maxed a 75% C/DP at level 37.5 and have two other 90%+ ones with worse moves (C/CC and KC/CC) sitting at level 30. My main Machamp can take down a 3k Pound Blissey in just about 35 seconds, though has more trouble with Zen Headbutt. He's just too useful these days, I never attack a gym without a Machamp and I use hatch level ones to prestige fairly regularly too.

That moveset at level 37.5 would be an absolute monster....I wish I had one

I also have one maxed out at level 37.5, but with 95.6% IVs and it is indeed a monster.

Congrats. That's not relevant to the question though which was asking about powering up subpar IVs.

I would ask you this...what will you prestige with? I have one with that moveset that is around 2200 cp. He doesn't have problems with any Blissey and a team of 2200 cp pokemon allow me to roll a good way though most gyms, allowing me to still get good prestige, even with a Blissey in there.

The question would be if a maxed out Machamp is significantly better. I have a 2469 cp kc/cc legacy Machamp and he preforms similarly. Obviously c/dp is a better moveset, but there isn't a huge difference in terms of survivability. I'm not sure that a level 37 Machamp offers you that much more in the long run.

Running a simulation on pokebattler of a 2200 cp Machamp vs a 2600 cp Machamp, the difference in battle time is 2 seconds, but the higher level Machamp has about 30 hps more remaining at the end. Are those 30 hps going to make a difference to you? It's not like you can take down a second pokemon with him either way. That is the decision you need to make.

I have a level 30 Machamp, as well as the other common options for Blissey slayers. My preference is usually B/SE Tyranitar for a variety of reasons, so that is the one I have powered up beyond 30.

However, I do regularly use my Machamp for prestiging Blissey, especially HB ones. So my Machamp would become less valuable to me, if I powered it to a higher level where it could not be used as well for prestiging.

That said, if you like using Machamp for attacking against Blissey (or others), then the key benefit to power up is to cross damage rounding thresholds. Counter does 10 damage with equal IV Blissey of up to level ~37. If you power to level ~31, you should get 10 damage against all possible Blisseys you'd see in gyms (assuming 15 attack). The threshold for pound doing 4 damage instead of 5 is similar. To get 11 damage from counter, you'd need to be ~6 levels above the Blissey, so that would probably require maxing out... and even then would often not be enough.

I have a 100% IV C/DP machamp, and at this moment, keeping it at lvl 30, primary coz using it for testing purposes, and also at lvl 30 with 2.4K CP, he is actually a good 1v1 prestiger against those high level Blisseys ( ie 2.6 to even > 3K ), coz for those high level ones ( which are common in my gym meta ), I dun aim to get the full 1000 prestige.

That being said, a sweet spot will be about lvl 31.5, ie assuming 15 atk IV, the Counter move can reach 10 dmg cap against a 15 def IV lvl 39 Blissey. If against the lvl 40 Blissey, need lvl 32. This will put it around 2.5K CP, but still within the CP range to prestige against high level Blisseys for > 500 pts.

I didn't transfer high level C/HS Machamps I evolved when a nest was nearby to leave them in gyms. In that sense C/DP is very versatile because it's great on attack AND defense. That means, power up to your heart's content.
