So I've recently noticed that Machamp, with a max CP of 2594 and the highest DPS of any fighting type pokémon, has a rating of 7.5/10 and doesn't even make the cut as a tier 3 attacker.

That's lower than Dewgong (8.5/10), Rhydon (8.5/10) and Charizard (8.0/10), all of which are overshadowed by other pokémon. Also he somehow ties with Tauros (7.5/10), which sits at only 1844 max CP.

I realize that Machamp is not very good defensively due to his exploitable typing, a typing that lack resistances to common powerhouses and also have crippling weaknesses to psychic and flying. In addition, his strongest quick move has a low 10 DPS, a major flaw.

However, Machamp does super effective damage to both Lapras and Snorlax, two of the most powerful defenders. His charged move also has the highest DPS in the entire game at 37.5.

Now, I'm not saying he should be rated 9 or 9.5, but a rise to 8 or 8.5 is reasonable. He should also get a spot at the attacker tier list because of his niche as the strongest super effective attacker into Snorlax.

As a side note not related to his current rating, the strongest pokémon of generation 2 is going to be Tyranitar, a rock/dark type with double weakness to fighting. The new generation will not introduce any fighting pokémon stronger than Machamp, so his usability will only rise further in the future.

The problem is quick attacks. They are both terrible for attack and defense. Which makes Machamp useless.

x1,25 bonus in attack will never compensate the weakness of Karate Chop, simply the worst quick attack of all.

Even with super effective damage there are much better pokemon to use against Snorlax and Lapras so 7.5 is a fair rating in my opinion.

I am with you..only comparable is the totally under-powered primate or poli, who has a junk charge move.
As an attacker it is gnarly set up with either quick move just there for a fast energy boosts. Defensively no good for obvious reasons. +
Gen 2 as you pointed out doesn't appear to offer many new fighting options.
I would call him a 9.5 attack, 7 defend.
Wish my perfect IV level didn't land freaking stone edge.

10/10 on badass looks. Worth powering for that reason alone. Most Pokemon just look silly, like exeggutors and vaporeons.

When the game was first released, I had strived so much to catch Machops hoping he could be top attacker against Snorlax and Lapras. But now he is just a completion of my Pokedex.
The rating of 7.5/10 is suitable for his badass looking and fighting animation :D

Tyranitar will have a major weakness to water: unfortunately any 1.5k CP Vaporeon would be able to take it down better than a Machamp...

I think Niantic has messed it all up with wrong decisions about movesets: the whole gameplay has been flattened by watergun dominance, and weak movesets for other types that may have made PG a more interesting game (electric, ghost, fighting, bug, poison, fairy, steel and so on)
