Lucky Pokemon change from No Dust to Half Dust

In a way, this really disappoints me.

I was looking forward to seeing Level 40 Rattatas, Pidgeys, things we are drowning in candies in but still wont invest dust in.

I almost wish they had complicated it a bit by using buddy distance. 5k+ buddy distances = 50% Cost. 3k = Reduce by 75%. 1k buddy distance = free.

Just so there was a little more variety to powered up pokemon.

I agree with you but that would allow people to max the good type of mons for free to.

To be fair, it was not changed from no dust to half dust. It was data mined with no stardust cost, then implemented with half cost. At no point was it released with a 0 stardust cost, then later nerfed.

Certain species should not cost as much stardust as a Dragonite or a Tyranitar to max out, to begin with.
In the main series, certain "uber" species take much, much higher numbers of EXP to level up when compared to common ones like Rattata. This should have been reflected in GO since the beginning with lower dust requirements for powering up suboptimal alternatives.
"Lucky" versions of common or useless species should be dust-free. That's just how it should be.

But Niantic does (or at least, did) compensate for the uber species by making their overall spawn rates lower, and thus the candy needed to power them up rarer. At least, that was the case before the recent exponential growth of events and community days featuring rarer mons (I'm looking at you, Dratini and Larvitar)...

Everyone wants a free lunch.

or, nobody wants to spend 100,000 dust to max out a Pidgey.
