Lucario question

Save all you "less bulk than blaziken" crap, I already know that, and thats something I want to address as people dont seem to be taking type effectiveness into consideration, only focusing raw stats

Assuming it gets counter focusblast/close combat (it could in all likely hood get better moves)
Being part steel, it gets damaged neutrally by fairy and psychic while other fighting types take super effective damage form those (blaziken being weak to psychic but not fairy) and as we all know, taking neutral or resisted damage is always better than taking super effective or neutral damage respectively, when DPS output is similar.

While it has less raw bulk than other fighting types, does that decreased damage from fighting type's typical counters have a chance at being one of the heavy hitters

Unless I missed it in the list, Lucario can't learn Dynamic Punch. So its fighting moveset will probably be Counter and Close Combat or Focus Blast, both one-bar moves.

Oh, didnt know it oculdnt learn that. it could get drain punch, aurasphere or force palm, all yet to be seen moves, with one fo them being what its almost exclusively associated with

Trust me it will get a new move like Aura Sphere, which might actually make him have an edge. It would be useless to determine the moveset at this point.

The question wasn't about moveset, it was about Type effectiveness affects it bulk when taking neutral damage relative to other fighting types taking super effective damage from the same attacker

Yes, that steel typing would actually work out in its favor, but it would otherwise make it hard to counter the regis and it's bulk isn't the best thing ever. One thing for sure having close combat and focus blast as its only viable fighting charged moves isn't the best way to go. In fact giving it focus blast or close combat is the best way to ruin it.

I;m not talking about agaisnt the regi;s, again, this is about how it would work against fighting typical counters in gyms, things like ZH snorlax/ Gleam blissey, play rough slaking, etc, not against the regi's, or like legendaries like dialga or regigigas (in non fighting move sets if it has them)

It will in a likely hood get force palm or aura sphere not just close combat or focus blast, that was a 'worst case' senario, given if it DOESNT get aura sphere, or some event for it, the backlash would be huge from all the fanboys

I know it isn't against the regis but it is needed to include all possiblities. This includes raid bosses and gym defenders. Against the normal gym defenders like blissey or snorlax you would be fine if you dodge a bit (Maybe even with yellow health left if you dodge well) but against a raid boss that is weak to fighting and had a fighting move you would had been koed.

It would obviously work fine against the gym defenders, maybe you can even take down another pokemon next to it if you dodged well.

understandable, the regie's to pack fighting moves and coverage meant to counter it's counters (aside from Registeel, no love for the metalhead) but im also wondering in comparison to other fighting types, like machamp and haryama, when it comes to gyms.

Agaisnt raids it could be hit or miss for match ips other fighting types have, as Tyrantar's got fireblast and rhydon/golem have ground moves, but against rock sets, it could be better because double resistance.

If it had higher bulk, maybe. Its bulk is simply too low for its typing to compensate.

Using moves in game already (Counter, Close Combat, Focus Blast) it has less DPS and TDO than Machamp, Hariyama, Blaziken, and Breloom with their optimal dual fighting movesets. This is a best case scenario where Lucario has Counter/Focus Blast. Against a Zen Headbutt/Dazzling Gleam Blissey the only factor it beats any of the above out in is having higher TDO than Breloom. Machamp, Hariyama, and Blaziken are all still better fighting type investments than it.

This is all based off current moves - if Drain Punch or Aura Sphere get added and are better moves thanks to power creep then it could contend, but that's more speculative than I want to get into.

Luucario's projected stats in Go vs Machamp:

Lucario -------------------------- Machamp
Max CP @40: 2461 -------- Max CP @40: 2889
Attack: 236 ------------------- Attack: 234
Defense: 144 ----------------- Defense: 162
Stamina: 140 ----------------- Stamina: 180

Speculating on potential new moves for Lucario at this point doesn't do much, since we a) don't know for sure that it will get any, and b) we don't know how good they'll be. So based on stats/typing and currently available moves alone, no, the steel typing doesn't give Lucario's bulk enough of a boost against normal types with counter coverage to grant it better TDO than our current best-in-class fighting types.

If Niantic gives Lucario one of it's signature moves and its good, we could see Lucario being a higher DPS contender, but right now, that's all up in the air.

Even with that, unless its DPS is miles ahead of Machamp it likely won't see much use. Breloom's DPS is a hair higher and only gets recommended in case-specific scenarios. Even then, it's usually only one Breloom being recommended as a lead for extra time against the clock.

Stats are going to be backed up by the moveset he will get. So the actual stats don't mean much unless it will have a viable moveset.

DPS is the only thing that matters. And there are no fighting types that out DPS Machamp now or in the near future. Breloom has the closest with the same moves and 241 attack. Typing and bulk have nothing to do with it. Until a Pokémon comes around and out DPS Machamp, it will always be the king. I do not see that happening until Gen V.

I think he will shine in Dialga raids. Part steel typing will make him resist the dragon and steel moves, making up for his lack of bulk a little bit, and he gets a strong fighting moveset it’ll have great DPS.

Unless new moves get added he's still behind Machamp and Hariyama, even with the extra resistances. Observe, using some DPS*TDO adjustments:

Dialga: Dragon Tail/Outrage
------- Machamp(C/DP) ----------- Lucario (C/FB)
DPS: 17.557 ------------------------ 15.218
TDO: 198.7 -------------------------- 171.9

Dialga: Iron Tail/Iron Head
------- Machamp(C/DP) ----------- Lucario (C/FB)
DPS: 17.757 ------------------------ 15.768
TDO: 260.2 -------------------------- 230.3

In both cases with dual STAB movesets Machamp still beats it at both. Hariyama is slightly below Machamp in DPS by less than a full point while providing more TDO.

Lucario taking neutral from psychic and fairy moves is still more squishy than Machamp taking SE from them.

Machamp effective bulk = 180*162/1.4 = 20828
Lucario effective bulk = 140*144/(1.4*0,714) = 20168

Granted, that's on a similar level, so if Lucario gets the good end of the stick with the movesets it should be viable for situations where the steel type protects it from its glassiness.
