Let's make some fun predictions

About how PvP battles will be. Since most posts are about how strong Pokemon will be in each league, I propose a different challenge. Niantic has repeatedly added simplistic features while a lot of players want more gameplay depth... so what is the WORST possible scenario you can think of about PvP?

The absolutely worst scenario I can imagine is the same as PvP in some mobile "idle games", where you choose your opponent (seeing their squad beforehand) and your Pokemon fight an automated 3v3 battle, using charge moves when able. Optionally getting/losing some rating in that league depending on the outcome.

What about you? Give it your best (worst) shot

They don't work on the battle system, and it's all about tapping. They could even reduce the strategy of when you change out.

To make it good, give more strategic choices and options. Swipe left vs right could be different dodges, and nothing (but the game tradition) stopping pokemon from having multiple charged moves, or even fast moves. That won't happen, of course.

Best case scenario: Whole thing gets reworked and it becomes a legit battle system?

Realistic best case scenario: You each enter a team of 6 pokemon within the cap. You can see the opponent's 6. Seeing each other's 6, you select the 3 you'll bring to the battle (and which will come first). Swapping pokemon is allowed, but comes with some kind of penalty (i.e. idle time where you take damage). When a pokemon faints, their trainer gets to select between the remaining two pokemon (not auto-selected). Combat will be same as current (tapping + charge moves). Dodging may work, but with severely reduced effectiveness (maybe -25% damage?) - I'd only want to see dodging on charge moves, if at all. PvP would be worldwide tournaments (hence the dodging not existing, as the long-distance potential would cause dodging to be inconsistent at best).

Worst case scenario: PvP is only local with friends. No hosted tournaments. The "caps" are just to enforce rules with your friends. You only pick 3 pokemon, and those picks and order are shown. No swapping. Second pokemon automatically comes out after first death. Entire battle is automatic, you have no input after selecting your team.

Solid worst case scenario, didn't think of the local requirement, it surely sounds horrible haha

One speculation I saw on Reddit which I found plausible is still tap swipe system, but no dodging. When you swipe right or left it is to switch your Pokemon. I think it's a plausible system because:
1. It doesn't require a big change to the battle system.
2. The dodge bug is eliminated without Niantic actually needing to fix it.
3. It's still a simple system compared to the main games, but does add some strategy and type knowledge.
