Lapras vs Cloyster

I have a Lapras with 53 IV and FB/BZ 1950 Cp, nad 2 Cloysters 91 IV FB/BZ (18xx cp) and 98 IV IS/BZ (1621 cp)

What would be better to power up?

The Lapras for sure. The 150 or so extra stamina it has over the Cloyster more than makes up for the ~130 defence and the extra IVs that your Cloyster has over the Lapras in survivability, because IVs make the least difference in combat compared to Pokemon species and moveset.

Cloyster is more potion efficient but that's about all it has over a Lapras. Potions shouldn't really be an issue anyway.

I'd say power up the FB Cloyster, because Lapras candies are a lot rarer, and eventually, you might find or hatch a better Lapras to use those candies on..

When you reach the higher levels, acquiring enough candies shouldn't be an issue given how long it takes to reach the next level.

But putting 100k dust into a Lapras gets you a stronger Pokemon than putting 100k dust into a Cloyster.

First of all, the FB Cloyster is around lvl 28, and the Lapras is around lvl 24, so it is not the same amount of dust. Second, the dust is irrelevant, because acquiring 100K dust is much easier than acquiring the ~50 Lapras candies needed to get this one up to lvl 30.

The Lapras at lvl 30 will have CP around 2375. Powering up the Cloyster to lvl 31 or even 32 will use less dust, and will result in a CP over 2100, so not a big difference for an attacking pokemon.

I don't know what you mean by "higher levels," but I am almost lvl 34, and have been walking with a Lapras for a long time. It is very slow going, and catching enough Laprases in the wild to get the candy will take a very long time as well. He might hatch a Lapras, but then, the chances are good that it will be better than this one.

So, I say he should be patient and save his Lapras candies.

How much distance do you get in a day? That'll obviously be a factor, but even if you don't walk that much each day, it'll still probably be faster to get more than enough candies to power up your Pokemon to the max again once you've levelled up than it would be to actually level up in the first place, just because of how long it takes to level up from 30 onwards.

Anyone who's still playing Pokemon Go seriously at this time is going to be at least slightly active and therefore get some buddy distance each day.

"He might hatch a Lapras, but then, the chances are good that it will be better than this one."

Not when you take into account moveset, seeing as his Lapras has the best attacking moveset. Any hatched Lapras will have better IVs, but the moveset is more important.

Is this a trick question?? Lapras dude. They are so rare and you got best offensive moveset. But I would not max it out because a 2000 CP Lapras uses 3000+ CP Dragonites like a kitten uses a ball of yarn. Forget about powering up cloyster IS. Now that I think more about it. Don't power up anything. Use Lapras and FB cloyster to take down Dragonites. I'm a conservative when it comes to candie and dust usuage so I never run out of shit when I hatch or catch a true gem to power up/evolve. Most here won't like what I say. Trust me I get thumbs down all the time on this type of topic. Haha

Agreed. Save your dust, as the pokemon are already strong enough as attackers to get the job done with dodging -- and your Lapras being so low IV % isn't worth powering up as a defender.

Save the dust / candy for a "true gem"

I'm curious for all the Lapras owners my 2000 cp Cloyster (FB/B) can take out 1.5-2 3200+ Dragonites before it faints or I have to sub it out. How many Dragonites can a similar cp Lapras with the same moveset take out? (Never owned or used one so idk) If it's similar and the only difference is dodging I'd say go with the Cloyster or otherwise just power up both. Power up Cloyster in between while you walk Lapras for a powerup.

Let's just say I take over a gym - stick a 3300 CP Dragonite with SW/DP. I use a 1600 Lapras with FB/Blizzard to train against the Dragonite to open up a crapload of open spots. And I use this Lapras for two rounds of prestiging before I potion it. That means it can take out 2 dragonites more than double its CP. My 3300 CP Dragonite is my 1600 CP lapras' bitch. Walks it around in a leash.

Haha. I've spent a small fortune on incubators since starting this game to hatch some gems. So no need to be jealous. I get jelly when I see awesome mons from trainers that don't spend a dime.
