Lapras 80% IV (should i power it up?)

I just got my first Lapras in a egg (after hatching lots of 10 km eggs), and it is very difficult to find this pokemon where i live. I play since the game´s launch and im not very lucky with 10 km eggs hatching.

It has defensive moveset (Ice Shard + Blizzard), and these stats: 80% IV, 14 at, 12df, 10 sta.

Considering the above, should I power up this Lapras?
I would like to know the opinion of you about that.
(sorry for any grammatical error - not my first language).

Thanks.

For defense, Lapras in gyms depends on how high the CP is for your area...I have 2 Lapras and don't really use them much for defense since strong gyms in my area are 2700+ now. Need to power up probably to Level 35 or so to have staying power so not as useful sadly.

If you want to attack with it and you have no other ice type mons, you can power it up, but I'd guess a level 20 Lapras can destroy any Dragonite in gyms anyways so you can test it out and see if it's necessary for you.

That said, it IS a Lapras so for their general rarity, it can't hurt just for fun and general use to power up. It did take 5 months to get one so who knows when another will come along.

If another did, you can power that one up to.

I have the Lapras with the same moveset. It definitely can be used for defense, but low max CP make it relatively low in a gym with 28xx mons even for my 26xx Lapras.

Alternatively, it can be used for offense though not ideal because of its slowness in my opinion.

After all, it deserves power up.

Ice Shard + Blizzard is plenty good for attacking. Until recently, I was using a CP 2100 Cloyster with that moveset to consistently take down 3000+ Dragonites. I was fortunate to recently catch a wild Lapras (lvl 30, CP 2453) with the same moveset, and that makes the job even easier. Sure, Frost Breath would be nice, but you have a very strong pokemon there, whether you want to use it for offense or defense. Power that baby up.

I would say to wait until you get enough candy to get it to at least Level 30. This is a defensive moveset and unless you have at least 2500 CP, it will stay at the bottom of most gyms. You can use it for offense too, but the quick move is a bit slow. Maybe try it out as an attacker to see if it suits your style.

And, who knows, if you wait until you have all the candy, you may hatch or find an even better one (higher IV or with IB).

Thanks a lot for the advices and tips!
I'll test him in the attack also after reading your answers.
And decided to power it up.
