I have a L20 IT/HS Steelix (12A/15D/10S). How useful is he? Is he worth powering up?

pretty sure with steelix you need a 15A

STOP feeding into the mass. Level 30 shouldn’t be your cutoff point at leveling up a Pokémon AND 15 attack stat isn’t everything considering Steelix is a defensive Pokémon.

He's fun and I love mine but he's not going to elevate you to this grand champion status. Svae your dust. Its hard to come by and by the time you grind a quarter mil you need to max a mon, you might even get a better onix despite how rare they are.

I play as much as I can reasonably do so, pokedex says I've caught 228 geodudes and 25 Onix. In that sense Steelix worth some attention, but putting in a gym attention rather than stardust attention

In that case feel free to evolve him. It takes a long time for Steelix to break 2k cp so whole he may not be the sturdier defender he will stay motivated for a while and he looks pretty cool too.

I have 3 Steelix with an additional 79 candies in case a high level Onix appears...I'm at 247/251 entries; missing Mime; Kang; Unown; FarFetch'd. When Gen 3 gets here guess I'll be a dex filler as much as a raider...Suicune 2 for 2...combined 70 caught between Moltres, Zapdos; Raikou; Entei.

Best Steelix is 1780 DT/Crunch; for me it one of many species lost in the shuffle. I have about a dozen species 96 to 98% that I'd like to put dust to: Arc; Gengar; Charizard; another 1860 Moltres; 98% Exeggutor, etc

Well, I have a 100% Steelix (dragon tail/heavy slam) at level 30 that I used in the old gym system. I couldn't get any decent ice attackers, so he was pretty much my best option against all the Dragonites defending gyms everywhere. I don't think I've used that Steelix a single time since the gym rework. So no, not very useful anymore, or worth powering up, unless you just want something a little different.

He is a defender and defenders are worthless atm. Stat wise good pokemon

You can put a pidgey and it can defend for months or you can put a 3 k blissey and i will return in a minute.
Take what u want from it.

Low turnover, definitely. It's below 1500 CP.

High turnover, I'm not so sure. I doubt it has enough HP at level 20. It's basically the same as a level 30 Cloyster, except for typing.

If your area has high gym turnover, he is a good defender. If not, he is pretty much useless.
