Kyogre Review

This is, in my opinion around as difficult to catch as Entei, which managed to give me some pain catching it, not because it was difficult to catch by itself (I can land greats and excellents very consistently on Entei but it won't stay in the ball), but because its hitbox is very tricky. So far, i had dealt with 7 Kyogre with 4 caught.

First, to the battle. The battle is among one of the hardest raid battles i had ever saw even with 20 people, possibly because i just joined and didn't have Raikou. 3 to 4 pokemon are guaranteed to faint in my opinion. It attacks very quickly and also winds up its one bar charge moves very quick. When i see one without Blizzard i generally throw grass types like Ludicolo, Sceptile and Exeggutor on it; Do not use Jolteon because it will be killed almost instantly without a chance for you to dodge. With blizzard i bring a team of very bulky pokemon like Wild charge arcanine, Hariyama and a Lanturn with 2 electric moves.

What's worse, my strongest Dragonite as mentioned on the previous post got a trash charge move due to a mistake and i still did not manage to get another charged tm to recoup it, so i have to replace it with something else and use overall very suboptimal counters. So far i had only saw 1 Kyogre with blizzard, unlike Groudon or Ho-Oh where nearly every instance has it using Solar Beam.

After then to the catching part. It doesn't seem to be as difficult to catch as Moltres or Lugia if you can even land the ball (If you score a great it's kinda likely to stay in the ball), the problem comes from its odd hitbox, making scoring greats or Excellents difficult. Despite how it looks like, it's actually very far away and what i think was the distance and size as Gengar. It also resets the circle very quickly and does so even quicker than ho-oh. My muscle memory usually tells me to throw the same distance as the aforementioned Gengar. However, i found out that when it double attacks, the ball just misses as if it was too far away and you are guaranteed to miss a few balls.

Then to the hovering part, i usually ignore it when it's hovering and only throw when it stays in the center and attacks. Thankfully it moves around a lot so it's unlikely to stay on one side and stop moving (Which is the worst case for any hovering pokemon); If it happens i can turn ar on and off and reset it to the center, but i never had to do it yet.

Another interesting thing i've saw is that the more balls you take to catch him the less likely you can. Personally so far my 4 successful attempts are from like 2 or 3 throws excluding misses.

I personally unlike most legendaries, advise you to join a group where your team is the majority because it's pretty much not possible to catch this under 9 balls unless you are very lucky. Also don't pinap it; Go for gold razz at all costs.

Good luck, just sharing personal experience.

Agreed it's the hardest legendary to fight and capture. I've caught 3/4 so far. Last one was caught on the first throw with GB.
Funny you mention Entei cause that one was easier to catch than Pidgey. I caught my first 16, 17th ran away.
I spin my ball clockwise with the swiping motion pointing towards the upper left corner of my screen. Because of that, I'm not able to throw the ball at it when it's on the left side of the screen, only middle and right.

I used to help my dad do raids when he was busy before i myself had my own pokemon go app and boy Entei was a disaster. After i caught the first one for him, No matter how i circle lock it and throw greats it simply just breaks free after 2 shakes and it continued until around the 6th or 7th attempt. On the good side it wasn't very hard to throw against however.

Kyogre has about the same catchrate as every other legendary since Lugia (I think the bird trio was actually a bit higher, but don't take my word for that). Assuming it isn't weather boosted, if you threw a curve ball with an excellent throw, a golden razzberry, and while also possessing a gold badge of the pokemon's type, you only have about a 15.65% chance of catching it on average (nice, great, and excellent throws aren't a set multiplier. The actual multiplier is based on how small the circle is. A nice throw can be anywhere from a 1.0 to a 1.3 multiplier. Excellent is 1.7 to 2). If you have 14 balls and got a curveball excellent throw with every ball alongside a golden razz and a gold water type medal, you still have around a 9% chance of not getting it. Remember that's your BEST case scenario. Most people won't be scoring the best chance of capture with each ball, especially on Kyogre with its distance away and side to side movements, and most people won't have anywhere near that many balls to begin with. I would also recommend using curve balls with every throw if you can manage it. That 15.65% chance per ball drops to 9.53% without a curveball given the same conditions. Then with 14 balls you have almost a 25% chance of not getting it.
I see people talking all the time about how they managed a single curve ball excellent throw and get upset when it broke out. They seem to think that it's supposed to be some sort of guaranteed catch. There are formulas available for finding out what your chances were, and even charts and graphs from people who have already done the number crunching if formulas aren't your thing.
