But basically every IV calculator automatically lists that (albeit not completely accurate) % value. Makes it easier to just use that number if you name your mons after their values, otherwise you need to do some addition or subtraction by looking at the exact IV values. It still takes less time to just let the program do the work than doing basic arithmetic. Though I admit to not getting why some players use the decimal point percentages instead of just rounding up or down.
just a rant: it really doesn't make sense to use % for IV
% are useful for big numbers above 100, or to compare ratios, but not for IV. It would make sense if different species had different IV scales. It's especially pointless to use the decimal. It's using approximations when there is no need to approximate. There is no 99% or 97.6% or 97%...
Is much easier to use the total IV points: perfect is 45, 43 means you're 2 IV points from perfect (15/15/13 or 15/14/14...), etc... this is the actual true values.
I get the appeal of saying 100%, but for all other IV values, it's just unnecessary complication.

You aren't incorrect, but you're missing my point, figuring the number of IVs out of 45 still takes a modicum of effort and math, whereas if you use an IV calculator it immediately shows you what the rough percentage of IVs out of 100% is. If you are a stickler for precise numbers you can go through the extra (relatively minor, but not insubstantial) thinking it takes to figure what is the exact number out of 45, but the vast majority of people will take the logical step and just use the immediately provided, and much more easily understandable % out of 100. Particularly when most of us use all 3 specific IV values in addition to the percentage total. All four of which are immediately provided by IV calculators, yet the precise number out of 45 (which you champion) still requires basic extra effort in the form of basic addition or subtraction on the part of the player. Also, the vast bulk of your comment is completely asinine, since my last point was people who don't round their numbers confound me, not to mention that no IV calculator goes farther than the hundredth decimal point.
It's not intuitive to use 45. People like whole numbers (and whole hundreds), especially 100%. This is common across every game or other areas in real life. It's the common language.
And why do you think it doesn't make sense to compare the IV with the perfect IV one? 87% means that you only get 87% of those additional stat bonus points. What's wrong with that?
Forgive me, but I'm Loling at your certainty that P2P interactions are a definite eventuality, at the rate Niantic has been going, I'd be surprised if we even got trading before we got Gen 5. And I'm honestly doubting we'll ever get PvP at this point since I don't see how Niantic would benefit from it, so there's no incentive for them to get it done.
Edit: After doing a quick google search of pokemon go in the news, the CEO of The Pokemon Company said Trading and PvP are still in the works for Go
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-09-05/pokemon-s-ceo-hints-at-big-plans-for-games-on-smartphone-switch
Edit2: Just brain-stormed, one incentive may be to host real-world events to gather people for tournaments (competition) which would rack in even more money
Once PvP drops, i'm quoting this comment ;)
My incentive for playing this game since the start has been towards (the still yet released) player-vs-player, and therefore, that is focus on when organizing my pokemon box and the like
If, at any point, Niantic announces "we have changed our minds and will never implement pvp" or something along those lines, I will stop playing, and so will a certain populace of the current players (albeit possibly a small portion).
I find no pleasure in the current battle system (gyms or raids) as it is so dull mindlessly tapping on the screen.
However, playing against somebody else will create a dynamic battle forcing players to switch out pokemon to reduce damage (type advantages), and dodging will have much more of a benefit. If niantic chooses some other mechanics for pvp, then i will readjust to those. A belief i've seen in a number of posts on here is making pvp turn-based; The Pokemon Company, from what I am aware, allowed Niantic to make Go with the condition that Go is, in some way(s), different from the mechanics in the main series-which is why I believe they will build player-vs-player battles upon some similar format of the current battle system.
In regards to the initial part of your reply, here's a source from a niantic employee stating pvp is on their current roadmap (in the works):
https://pokemongohub.net/post/breaking-news/david-hollin-niantic-interview-save-candy-clarified-pvp-trading-horizon/
If you go to 11:35 into the video, David states:
"There will be events obviously tied to calendar year and there are things on the horizon which is Trading and PvP, but these are kinda more long term. In terms of short… hm… we’ll see."
In regards to my response to Arak's initial comment, he, and you, are correct that currently attack ivs are more valuable than defense or hp, due to making pokemon have a higher probability that they will have a break point against a specific raid boss or a defender. I am presenting an argument that, when the main focuses of this game shift away from raids and attacking gyms, defense and hp iv's will most certainly have merit.
I too believe trading will not be released for a while; I figure Niantic is trying to come up with a solution to preventing black market trading (lol) to the best of their ability-which is no doubt a tricky task.
Lastly, one possible incentive for introducing pvp is to help keep the game "fresh." I acknowledge raids have been a great addition to pokemon go in terms of keeping the player base active, especially being compared to the prior year where the main focuses of the game have been catching pokemon and battling gyms. I see raids becoming stale over time, in between generations and current and future legendaries. I could be wrong! Raids may keep this game alive. This is just an opinion, but if I am right, player-vs-player battles will add a dynamic that will allow for customization, an entire new meta game, and even tournaments, and real-world competitions, which Niantic could benefit from.
As you can see I am passionate about this subject. Unfortunately, there has been little progress towards pvp and typically when I comment on questions and include a reference to PvP it is frowned-upon/shunned/etc. However, if it does come out, I think it will make this game more popular than the initial surge of raids and legendaries and even potentially mewtwo !
It's the accepted rating standard for caught pokemon. If you want to change it, go for it. Most deeper players people will list their 3 stats A/D/S
Whatever. It seems the vast majority of people care less about the individual stats than they do the overall percentage. Right or wrong it's just the way it is.
I actually find it a bit annoying that the gamepress IV calculator lists the IVs in Hp/Atk/Def order since Attack is the most important, so I always list it first, and HP is the second most important, so having it last makes for the best setup to notice which IVs are most ideal if you name your mons after the IVs.
