If you want to turn him to a place holder crap defender power him up, the most likely counter for him is vape, and even considering that FB is the only one of his 3 moves that is not resisted by fighting and is SE on grass, it is too easy to dodge even if you are using volt switch. For att I am almost sure this is the worse moveset, so it would be like powering up a steel wing HB nite.
Just evolved first Tyranitar and need advice....
Ok I just evolved my first Tyranitar and it got Iron Tail / Fireblast. I’m pretty pissed, it took me a while to get the candies. He has 87% IV and he has 1757 CP. I am level 30 and I am not really hurting for attackers or defenders, but would have liked him for an attacker. With such a bad attacking moveset, I see him as a gym skimmer if I max him out.
Just to give you an idea of my biome, larvitar are not common but I can manage to get about 4-6 a week and almost always use pinaps on them. I have about 50 candy I can spend on him to power him up as of now, and since I am almost halfway to another T-Rex, you can see why I need advice on whether I give up on this guy or try for another. So what do you think of him on defense? Is this worth the power up? This is such a bad start to my weekend….

My Tyranitar got Iron Tail/Fire Blast also. Stupid moveset. Not sure why it even has Fire Blast as an option. Stone Edge already provides type coverage against grass.
Better options that it can learn in the mainseries games:
Rock Slide (two bar with STAB that since Gen2 update is pretty close if not better than Stone Edge)
Earthquake
Dragon Claw
Ice Beam
Thunderbolt (anti-water)
Aerial Ace (anti-fighting)
